I'm going for my GOING GREEN BADGE so I've been researching natural cleansers and I came across this recipe for an Antibacterial Cleanser which claims to even kill the H1N1 virus:
2 cups water
3 tbsp liquid soap
20 to 30 drops of tea tree oil
Mix is spray bottle.
Would you mind helping me earn my badge but more importantly having a safer and cleaner non-toxic home for my family by posting tour tried and true recipes for all natural cleaners and such

Miksgirl's recipe is much easier than this, but if I'm correct it makes a powder soap. My Dad gets skin irritation from powdered laundry soap not dissolving correctly so I've made a liquid detergent recipe very similar to this for my family. http://www.icanteachmychild.com/2011/02/make-it-homemade-liquid-laundry-soap-1/ I cannot find the website where I originally got the recipe into my folder of recipes but I can pass some notes along from my original source that I can personally vouch for. If you have very very sensitive skin or allergies this can be made without the borax. It will do everyday loose dirt and sweat just fine but won't get serious stains out as well. Also, you don't have to use Fels-Naptha soap. This detergent can be made with any kind of roughly "regular" sized bar soap. So if you make soap you can use that, if you have a favorite scent you can use that and it will be very subtle in the detergent. I used Ivory and it turned out fine. No matter what you do, the texture won't be perfectly smooth so don't worry too much. It'll be kinda goopy, but in a fun way.

Good for you for going green! I've done it completely now, with all our cleaning and personal care products. I just heard about a glass cleaner it was 1 cup rubbing alcohol and 1 cup water. Not sure how it works as I haven't tried it out yet! :)

This is an easy laundry soap recipe. One box baking soda, the box washing soda and 2 bars bronners organic soap. You can choose from any fragrance that you like. I prefer peppermint. |

Glass Cleaner
1 c. water
2 T. vinegar
2 T. rubbing alcohol (If you're worried about using rubbing alcohol, any clear grain liquor can be used)
1 1/2 t. cornstarch
Mix all ingredients in a small spray bottle
Shake
Spray on windows, mirrors, or any other glass surface
Wipe with a soft cloth or paper towel
Make sure to shake it before every use, as the corn starch settles.

Iam a pretty big fan of Murphy's oil soap. Despite the fact that they warn you not to use it on untreated wood floors its never harmed mine. Also, it can be used as a leaf shine or mild plant pest killer if you put a few cap fulls of it & a few cap fulls of rubbing alchol into a spray bottle & the rest water & drench your plants in it...Doesn't do much for spidermites, but works for mealy & scale. You just have to keep applying it for a few days. Some plants seem to really like it. |
