Posted - Oct 15 2011 : 06:26:23 AM Got a fruit fly problem? Pour some basalmic vinegar in a small bowl (I used a clear pyres remekin (SP)). Put plastic wrap tightly over the top and poke holes in it. Place near fruit fly infestation. It will attract and kill fruit flies. I don't know if apple cider vinegar will work. I imagine it would. Probably would not use white vinegar. Too distilled.

Posted - Sep 17 2013 : 02:02:01 AM They love anything sweet and what I use is either balsamic or a bit of wine, syrup and dishwashing soap. The soap coats their wings so they can't fly out. Works like a charm! |

Posted - Nov 14 2012 : 07:53:05 AM Yeah! The apple cider vinegar has worked in the kitchen. It even caught a housefly! The ones that were flying around I just used my hand dirt devil to suck them out of the air. :)

Posted - Oct 25 2012 : 4:23:10 PM Now that fall has come around MiaBella, do you have a plan for fly control next year, so you can have bananas?? |
garyw965 |
Posted - Sep 13 2012 : 5:50:33 PM I agree fruit flies are no reason to stop buying bananas. there has to be some fly prevention that will work for you. |

Posted - Aug 09 2012 : 7:20:08 PM Michelle, Not buying bananas is not the way for getting rid of flies. Where are you going to get the potassium from if you don't get bananas? |

Posted - Aug 07 2012 : 09:36:55 AM Darlene, if those methods didn't work on how to get rid of flies, here's another one that might work. A bottle with the acv mixture in it. Then make a paper cone, invert it and out it in the bottle. They get in but can't get out. |

Posted - Jul 30 2012 : 09:53:15 AM No your not strange Hazel. I have a friend that bread crickets for lizards so not weird in my book.
Darlene, has that recipe help on how to get rid of flys? |

Posted - Jul 19 2012 : 10:04:50 AM Yea, that's what they eat and it's about $10 a culture at the pet store, so it's easier just to grow them myself. I also have a worm farm and I breed roaches for my bearded dragon... Yes, I'm strange! Lol |

Posted - Jul 18 2012 : 9:40:29 PM That is interesting. do you grow the wingless fruit flys for your poison arrow frogs? neat. darlene

Posted - Jul 17 2012 : 09:11:10 AM also, if you are having trouble you might want to make more than one and scatter them. I actually made 6 of them and spread them around the kitchen, pantry off the kitchen and living room (connected to kitchen as well). this seemed to swoop them up faster. Now I only need one on the kitchen stove!! I keep it out all the time. I have a worm farm in the basement and a compost crock in the kitchen, so we have them all the time! Since I also have poison arrow frogs and breed cultures of WINGLESS fruit flies, it is super important for me to keep these buggers out! If ONE gets into a culture, I will have an entire container of these flying buggers and the culture will be ruined!

Posted - Jul 16 2012 : 6:45:52 PM We have these pretty bad and the apple cider vinegar in a mason jar with plastic wrap works! My father actually has a decorative wasp trap with little feet sitting on his counter with apple cider vinegar in it. It works just as well and actually looks nicer! |

Posted - Jul 03 2012 : 09:10:33 AM I do here it is. I hope this works for getting rid of flies.
FLY PAPER
100 ml (3 1/2 oz) corn syrup 1 tbsp brown sugar 1 tbsp white sugar 6 strips brown paper (cut from a paper bag)
Combine the syrup & sugars in a shallow bowl. Poke a hole at the top of each strip of brown paper. Soak paper in the syrup mixture over night. Scrape paper strips across the edge of the saucer to remove excess syrup & hang the finished fly paper strips near windows & doors. Replace when strips are covered.
