Posted - Apr 04 2010 : 5:14:45 PM When we moved into our house a year ago the gas stove had really grungy grates. I scrubbed as hard as I possibly could and here, a year later, they still looked awful, so I went in a search online about how to clean them up and found this tip.
Place one grate in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Spray generously with ammonia (be careful...he fumes are AWFUL). Close bag and leave overnight. The next morning, remove the grate from the plastic bag and wipe off using a little extra elbow grease where there is a lot of build up. So clean and pretty!
Seriously, the rear grates on my stove were so nasty I thought that the black parts on them were where the enamel had worn off on the corners, but it all peeled right off after sitting overnight in the ammonia. They are all so nice and pretty gray again now :)

Posted - Apr 04 2010 : 6:36:21 PM I think someone where I read the tip had said something about grill grates too Diana.
Maybe you could seal the grill grate in a rubbermade tote or something.

Posted - Apr 04 2010 : 6:27:48 PM Do you think this would work on the BBQ grill grates?
