I have done the toothpaste bit! We used to have it as a small motor skills activity with the pre schoolers, they loved to make things shiny!

I just tried the aluminum foil, baking soda and boiling water. It works great! Thanks for the tip.

Get an aluminum pan, put your silver in the pan and cover with baking soda. Pour boiling water over it and let science work. The chemical reaction of the aluminum and soda get it all nice and polished. We just did this with a vintage necklas my daughter bought. Came out sparkling clean. Cheap and it works!
