There is a store here in Ohio that just opened up called: ReStore. Its run by habitat for humanity. They sell items that they can not use or items that have been salvaged and that they dont want to be put in a dump. I think its great! I havent been to it yet but im planning on it as soon as I can.

Oh, I'm envious. The closest big town to me is Fairbanks and all we have there are the "Box" stores. Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart and Fred Meyer(west coast farmgirls know this one). Sometimes I want to move, sigh!!

We have one in Pennsylvania too. They also accept donations. I have not been in it yet. We also have a really neat salvage store called Construction Junction. We have picked up lots of cool stuff there. They even had these really huge cement (?) arches from outside of a church. Not sure what you could do with them but it was really cool. Lots of people donate items so they don't end up in the dump. I got some nice outside front lights for the house - copper - for $30 for the pair.

We have two here in the South Bend area. It's not only people who donate but also some of the local merchants. You can find brand new stuff that has been pulled from the shelves as overstock etc. One local furniture shop donates some of it's floor models ( I scored one of their tables!).Supporting the ReStore is a win win as it not only promotes reuse, recycle, but also supports Habitat for Humanity.Definitely see if your area has one and have fun exploring!

Yay-my first post!

We have one in fairfield, about 20 min away. Got all of our outdoor lighting, plus we were there the day they opened the doors, and got two Tiffaney chandeliers 42 outdoor lights, for $180.00 everything was new!!!!!!

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

I just introduced my fiance to the store. We were able to get a cabinet to put in the laundry room for $50. When I was first divorced and setting up my trailer I was able to get a sofa, mattress set, and dryer for like $65.

I agree that its hit or miss. It's one of those stores you have to frequent often.

I found the most awesome chandelier at our re-store in town. It is metal with a pinecone theme and it was new! I paid just $30 for it!

We have one in Clarksville about 30 min from our farm. I got really lucky a few months ago and found two solid brass craftsman chandeliers. They were a steal at $40 each. I've seen them online since at over $300 a piece. I'm going to use them over our long dining table. I can't wait for the house to be finished so I can outfit the garage with storage cabinets from there. It is hit and miss to what you find there each visit. But keep going back and you might get lucky! I donate a lot there just so I can shop. Kinda helps with the guilt when I realized what a deal I got on the lights too.

There's one here in Brighton, Too. I have been on the lookout for a new kitchen faucet so I can install a water filte. No luck yet, but it sure is fun checking out the goodies and Habitat is such a great org.

They have one here too. It's all home remodeling stuff: sinks, ovens, cabinets, etc. I've never found anything yet that I could use, but like any thrift store or flea market, it's a gamble.

That would be great, Dawn! Maybe you could talk to your local Habitat for Humanity chapter to see if there are any plans to put one in your location. Maybe asking for it might help.

Darn, they are in southern IL only, too far from me. There is one up in Waukegan, which is north, but again too far from me too. Sounds like a great idea, maybe they will add more here in IL.

We went to the reStore shop here in Omaha yesterday. I was able to get the cutest vintage door and a window for the chicken coop we are getting ready to build. The door is solid wood and well built. (it weighs a ton too!) We spent less than $60 for both. I saw some flooring and a sink I liked too but they were getting ready to close so we had to scoot out of there. I know I will be visiting there again.
