I couldn't believe it was Trader Joe's burger this time - I have always thought they were one of the grocers whose products you could depend on. I think I may give up beef altogether...........

Isn't this sad? I mean, why don't they say it right out....We're recalling the meat because it has poop in it? Gross. I buy from a clean local facility as well.

Hi Sadiedarling!

My local butcher place will sell you half an animal and if you don't have enough freezer space, you can rent freezer space from them as well.

We've gotten to the point where we just can't buy meat from any grocery store. Once you start learning about the industry the meat gets a lot less tasty. We now buy our meat at the local farmers market directly from the farmer. We can feel good about the conditions the animals were raised in, the impact the farming practices have on the environment, and the safety of the food - plus it tastes better. It is more expensive but worth it, and we eat less of it now. I've considered buying shares of animals, as well, I'm curious if anyone else has experience with that. It would fill up our freezer pretty fast.

That is scarey! I have never shopped at a Trader Joe's, though. I am really interested in renting cold storage space and buying half a cow, a lamb, and a bunch of chickens. If we did this, then we would have local meat and it would be more than enough for a year. It would take a good bite out of my financial aid though...

makes me relieved that we buy our beef from a farmer locally and have it butchered by a local butcher...good feeling to know where it came from. It is awful to have to be afraid of buying food!!!! I agree that Trader's Joes seemed more dependable!! (I miss being near one since we moved here!) Sigh.
