Dear MaryJane and all the farmgirls at MJF and at all the groups across the nation,

What a lovely MJF issue it is!!! I am so impressed with the Artists in Aprons issue. Thank you for the free patterns and the new ones available to purchase. I received my extra issues and the two new apron patterns. I was to Scranton area this week and acquired some inexpensive floral fabrics on the clearance section of JoAnn's store. You would never know, though, as they are the sweetest pinks with rosebuds, a light blue with shades of pink roses and a soft blue dot to trim them up. I can't wait to try them out with the "Helen" pattern and the others from the issue and the book.

I had my enlargements made at Copy Max. This was they were done on one piece. You can even have them printed on vellum to make it easier to pin. It was not the cheapest way to go,$5 per sheet as it was so large to blow them up at once into 400%, but it was quick and saved me time. My time is just as precious as money these days, and some times I choose the time saver option.

My siblings and mother and mother in law have all received their issues as well. Thank you for taking the time to send them out for me to save me on shipping twice. My mother in particular is enjoying the issue. Not only was she thrilled to see her grand-daughter in the issue, but she so loved the pictures of all the women in the aprons. She was reminiscing to me on the phone about all the various aprons my grandmother wore. She wore a different one each day. I still have one of her working ones with the terry cloth towel attached at the waistband to wipe her hands. She had a few chiffon ones for company dinners. Most were half aprons of basic feedsacks. I remember her wearing them while making cookies with me. She was an incredible cook, baker and seamstress and could make just about anything. She was just married with a young child (my mom) when the depression hit. She taught herself to sew and knit. She had a victory garden when my grandfather got drafted in WW2. She continued her frugal ways all through her life. She was known to create clothes for herself from ones bought at church rummage sales.

Anyway, I just appreciate that you cultivate a wholesome, hardworking, fun life. It is so important to find the values important to us and work to maintain them-organic food and gardening, wholesome cooking, satisfying handwork, making do and problem solving with what's on hand, joyful simplicity. Thank you for reminding me that my lifestyle that has worked for years is still as valid now as it was when my grandmother needed it the most. I am not quite as handy or frugal as she was, but I work towards it each day.

I look forward to the next issue with directions for rugs from scraps. I have been saving the long edges from the trimming off of my quilts in expectation of the fun scrap rug it will make for in front of the fireplace. I have wanted to try one for years and now I will have the directions for it. Your directions are always very easy to follow.

Thanks again.
