Posted - Feb 05 2012 : 9:15:28 PM I don't know if this is the right place, but I was reading "Farm Show", a publication similar to "Capitol Press".
There was a blurb about someone who has made a bench from an old twin bed. The headboard was the back of the bench and railings were used for the armrests and I think the bench legs were also legs from the bed. I thought it was a project very much in keeping with MJF.
I don't know what issue it was or what is necessary to use something like that in your magazine or the Cluck. Just thought you might be interested.
PS---I met a lady while visiting Alaska who was interested in my issue of MJF. I couldn't part with mine as I hadn't really read it yet so I bought her a copy! Helping to spread the word.

Posted - Feb 15 2012 : 09:36:34 AM See what I mean? Don't you think that there should be an article or a how-to in an issue?
I like the bed of old doors. Turned out lovely.
And the benches are also. You all are so talented.

Posted - Feb 09 2012 : 6:23:14 PM Okay - so I have to brag a little bit... I know it's not a bench, but I just have to show you...
This is a bed my husband made me for Christmas a couple of years ago out of antique doors. I'll treasure it forever!!!
I'm such a very blessed girl, indeed!

Here is another one made from a spindle bed.
This one I made out of an old metal crib. I just removed one side and found a crib mattress at Ikea and made a slip cover for it!

Posted - Feb 09 2012 : 5:45:18 PM Loyce, I used to make benches out of old bed frames in my studio. Here is a picture of one...
I would use the headboard as the back and cut the footboard in half and secure it to the headboard. I would then cut out plywood for the bottom and cut foam to fit. This one is upholstered in a toile print so I painted a matching scene on the back. http://studiodiphotosite.shutterfly.com/ farmgirl sister #922

Posted - Feb 06 2012 : 05:20:00 AM Loyce- That is awesome that you bought her a copy! I have had several of my coworkers borrow my copies of the books or magazines at work and then buy themselves a subscription. I think that the MJF magazines are addictive! I always am so excited to see mine come in!! :)
