I'm already halfway through my first 3 lb. order of the budget mix and am afraid I may run out too soon! Can we order larger quantities in bulk, at even better savings? I'd be interested in seeing prices for 10 lb. quantities. |

Hi girls. Nick is so busy with orders these days that I just went over to our production facility and measured the Budget Mix myself. You'll be glad to know that 1# of Farmgirl Budget Mix = nearly 4 cups (probably less than 1/8 cup less than 4 cups -- just like flour). So sorry that whoever you talked to at the farm said that 3# was 8 cups. 3# of the mix is actually 12 cups. Hope that helps! And I had first-hand experience with the Budget Mix last week when I used it to make a recipe for the 800 shortcakes we're making for our Farm Fair weekend, and I didn't sift at all, so I can safely say no sifting required!

That's weird. I figured I read wrong and remembered it wrong, but when I look up 1 pound of flour online, it always says 3 3/4 or 4 cups. Is it that there are other ingredients and so it's settling differently? Even my 5 lb bag of flour says there are 75 1/4 cups which is 3 3/4 cups per lb.
It must be something about it being not just flour. Maybe it needs to be sifted again after shipping. Has anyone tried sifting first and come out with a different result with the recipes?

Hi girls. Nick is checking on the weight/volume thing for the Budget Mix, and I'll post here as soon as I have an answer. As for ordering the Farmgirl Budget Mix, for right now we are only selling the 3# bulk. We are looking into manufacturing it in larger quantities to get the price down, though, so keep tuned for updates there!

Thanks for responding, Allison. My Conversion Calculator says that 3 lbs. dry mixture should equal 6 cups dry measure. I wonder if the saying about "contents will settle" applies here? MJF may measure out 8 cups for mailing, but by the time we get it, it just looks like less. I did not measure the entire package when I got it but I should be able to do so with my remaining budget mix, added to the measured amounts used in the three recipes I have made so far. It is a great product, I am extremely happy with the quality. I am just trying to find a way to justify the cost while staying within my own budget. |

Hey, Jo. I had a similar question and I called MJ's. They told me 3 lbs is 8 cups and that has helped me figure out how long that would last based on my menu planning.
I didn't ask but I wonder if that's pre-sifted. I'm pretty sure one lb. of flour is almost 4 cups, so I wonder what makes 3 lbs of the Budget mix fewer cups all told. Maybe someone from the company can help out.
