I got this in the mail this past Tuesday, and BOY OH BOY!! :)
With each new issue, I fall more and more in love with the spirit of the Farmgirl!
Thank you for showing me how to make the most of my life, and how to "preserve my harvest!" It feels amazing to be living more and more off the work of my own two hands. :)
Each issue is a treasure, thank you all so much for the hard work that you put into the magazine and all aspects of MaryJanes Farm!

Hi I'm new to this forum. I love Mary Jane's magazine. I look forward to receiving it. Can't wait, actually. I have a question though. Is this the isue that had the instructions to building a cold storage room? Believe it or not, I lost that issue (sniff, sniff). My husband wants to build one for this year's harvest. Do you know the person who sells them on etsey? Help, Help.

I was intriqued by those European haystacks also.
My dad had to stop working summers at his uncle's dairy farm when he developed bad hay fever as a young man. The times we went upstate to visit when I was little, it was always January! |

I found it at Tractor Supply when I went with my hubby. I also found it at Books-A-Million. I am a subscriber, but I'm always on the look out for vendors, too.

I agree, I thought the haystacks were really interesting. I'd like to see the whole process start to finish making them.

After seeing everyone sharing I must say this issue made my heart grin, I was feelin kinda low, then while in Cheney at the store my little girl Bee says " hey mama MaryJane!" Instantly I'm lifted and she grins! On the way home in the car with each page my saddness disolves then on Pg- 84 there is MY BASKET! I was brought strait down to earth.. grounded reminded that once again MaryJane my friend loves my art.. A memory of that BEAUTIFUL Day at the Moscow Ren fair.. MaryJanes BIRTHDAY! I was sitting there spinning at my wheel and I see this amazing RED hat in the croud surrounded ofcoarse by this buzzing swarm of farmgirls giggling and shopping, then MaryJane comes to me & gives me a squeeze then my booth is filled with farmgirls .. katy Rebecca Mayand Beverly! MaryJane had to have that basket.( along with yarn, soap & a fiber sculpture) I KNEW she would find the best home for my basket! It is handwoven ivy and pussy willows from right here on the palouse! I want to say THANK YOU MARYJANE for reminding me to nurrrish the artist inside..you have always been there to support my Art.. you are simply wonderful! Its great to see my Palouse nieghbor Huckleberrywine in there too .. YEAH!! Michelle your babe is so beautiful you should toot your horn shes wonderful and is a very sweet kid! & Katy GREAT pics you look so lovely leanin on the hay! My favorite issue so far- GREAT JOB GUYS!

o.k. I wasn't going to toot my own horn either, but... I am tickled pink that one of my photos made it into the latest issue of the magazine. Page 64... the "Corn Crazy" article..that is my daughter's hands and her in an apron she made from fabric that was gifted to her by a fellow farmgirl.:0)

YepI ! Another great one! I just got mine today, as it had to be rerouted due to my move. I just love looking at the pictures!
I love the Making Hay in Romania story.I want to try the raspberry chill over jam, I made strawberry last year, it was greatQ
I was also tickled to see my green recipes in the magazine. Did know they would be, it was a fun surpise.

As always I LOVE all the farmgirl stuff throughout the magazine.
But, for the first time ever, this issue had something that really disappointed me...the new advertizers...Bradford Exchange, Hawthorne Village and First Street...IMO they just really don't fit with the magazine's organic theme...I'd have ripped them out, but there were articles on the other side...I understand the economic climate, etc...again, just my opinion, but I felt they detract from what I thought MaryJane's farm and the mag are all about.

This morning I went raspberry picking (had a brief break in the rain of this unbelieveably soggy new england summer) & came home and made jam with the Chillover powder recipe on page 56. It turned out great! I will use the Chillover for canning my jams the rest of the summer instead of pectin. And I can't wait for local corn to come in to put up relish.

I agree! It is a great issue! I especially love the article about the heritage haystacks! Can you imagine how different life is when a haystack is something you inherit? Amazing! I am in love with the pictures too!

It's here! I'm going to toot my own horn (sorry, I know I shouldn't, but forgive me) I love seeing my girl and horse on pg. 72! I just can't say enough praise to MaryJane, Carol, and the whole staff at the magazine. I love every issue and now especially this one which is destined to be a family favorite. Now, to sit back and read it cover to cover until I wear it out. I better buy a few extras when they hit the stands! Thank you!

We put up 230 bales of alfalfa hay for our horses last week at my grandparents property, my boy drives the same tractor I drove as soon as my feet could reach the pedals! I love hay season, it's my favorite time of year despite being allergic to it!
I saved this issue until we were done so I'd have time to sit down and savor it on our camping trip this weekend! |

My magazine came on Thursday. It's always such a treat. I set aside time to just sit down and slowly go through it page by page. Funny thing is now my DH is just as excited to see it come as I am. He always reads through it too!
Michelle....I hear ya about the hay. We're right in the middle of that too, in about three different places and it's SO HOT!
It's not about being perfect, but enjoying what you do. Set aside time to be creative.

Patsy, you're not kidding it's tough! We got a call just yesterday that our hay is baled and in the field, ready for us to pay for and buck (lift on to the truck) and haul to the farm (better price that way). Now, that is work. So, here it is the 4th (yeah!) and it is supposed to rain tomorrow (oh no!). So we have a real hay conundrum. No way to get it done today (no help/lots of fun planned), and it will be less good if it gets wet in the bale. Oh, the farm life. Got to love it, good and not so good, it beats other ways of living (IMO). :)

I remember helping my dad hay and that was a tough job. If you wore long sleeves, you were covered in sweat and without long sleeves the hay poked you in the arms and made you itch like mad. He would sometimes make me climb up into the loft and I hated that part. I am deathly afraid of heights. But it was satisfying and the cows were all the better for it, and I guess we were too.
