Posted - Apr 21 2024 : 03:11:29 AM Today is finally bee install day. I picked up the girls on Friday. It was a high of 32 that day, too cold. Yesterday was a high of 42. Too cold. Today it is supposed to warm up to 58. Perfect. Once it gets to 50 or so, I will put them in their new home. They will be so happy and I will bee too.

Posted - Sep 18 2024 : 6:02:32 PM Hi, All! I have birds, butterflies, and lizards in my backyard. My neighbor would report me if I had chickens or bees in my yard. So I have to be happy feeding and caring for my tiny buddies! We have lots of new baby lizards this year, so we must be providing for them fairly well. They have rock piles to hide in and watering stations spread out around our yard. The birds empty the feeder in half a day. They are also very happy with their bird baths.

Posted - Sep 18 2024 : 12:46:26 PM Michele, that's great your bees are doing so well. I don't know anything about raising bees, but hopefully you can figure out the lack of honey soon. Keep up the amazing bee keeping.

Posted - Sep 18 2024 : 03:29:40 AM And just like that, summer is turning into fall. I did a bee check last weekend. The hive is buzzing. Lots and lots of bees. The drones were still in the hive. Some honey on top of some of the frames. Still quite a bit of brood. I was able to take one frame of capped honey in July. I have not figured out, why they make so little honey. The month of June was rain almost everyday, so they were not able to be out much. I had a full box on of new frames and foundation, that they never touched. The foundation did have wax added to it. I did start feeding them. So will see what happens. I did do a mite check and found 1. So that is good.

Posted - Jun 23 2024 : 07:02:19 AM Michele,
I’m happy things are going well with your bees! I hope you get lots of sweet honey for your effort! Happy summer……
I had to put my beekeeping adventures on hold a couple years ago. I’m watching my new property for a full season to see what grows in the area before I decide if I want to try bees again at my new place.
Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Posted - Jun 18 2024 : 04:52:26 AM The bees are buzzing, when they can, inbetween rains. Things are still looking good, with the queen doing her job well. They have some honey built but not alot. I was hoping to get some this year. They are very calm bees which is always a good thing. I give them probiotics once a month to help keep them healthy. I do have their hive entrances fully open, and their vent box open too. Lets all Bee Busy.

Posted - May 06 2024 : 03:45:16 AM I checked each frame yesterday and things are looking good. Capped workers, capped drones, and eggs. The queen is doing her job well. They are bringing in lots of pollen now. The dandelions are starting to bloom here and whatever else they are finding. They have ate some of their pollen patty and I did give them a little more sugar syrup. Bee Happy!!

Posted - May 05 2024 : 03:40:06 AM I checked on the bees three days after installing and the queen was out of her cage. Since then we have had rainy rainy weather. I did do a quick check about a week later and added another hive box. Now I will pick a nice day and do a more indepth check. I did see some brood earlier, so the queen was laying. I have been using probiotics for the bees for a few years, and it does seem to help them out.
