Today and tomorrow Darling is taking part in the Whatcom County Youth Fair. More than just the usual ag fair, it's where kids can learn all sorts of things; Darling is taking a photo class.
They also do an auction on Friday evening which benefits a couple different scholarship funds. They had a squealy little piglet that Darling wanted. I told her she could go up to $100 (even though they sell for $75.) Well, some guy kept bidding against her, and eventually won at $105.
I told Darling not to worry, because he'd turn it back over. She was confused, then next thing you know he hollered "Roll 'er back!" and the bidding began again! This time Darling won the piglet at $70. She's a happy Darling tonight

LOL, Alee...not a vegetarian here, so no problem with the dinner comment! As kids we had one named Ham and another Bacon. Those were the first two, then Dad decided to go into the piggie business. We loved those babies, they were so much fun! And they tasted good, too!
But really, those pics don't do the ugliness of this pig justice. However, she is rather fun to watch out there tilling up my garden

I didn’t want to be offensive at suggesting the pig your daughter bought might become dinner- however that is what I would do with it if I could eat pork!
I think it is cute, but then again I think any baby animal is cute!

yep..looks like the piggy from Charlotte's web..ha.
cute thing, but I bet it will grow fast.
and you'll have plenty of bacon for the freezer.

I checked out your Piggie on your blog.....so cute. I always wanted a pig. We have goats coming and we have chickens and horses now.....but sure could use a pig! Have a blast. By the way, your blog is great!

Yup, Tina's right about the 'Roll her back' term. It's a benefit auction, money goes to scholarships for the kids. Bunnies and pigs almost always get turned back over.
I just posted piggie pics on the blog. She's going to be dinner (and breakfast), not a pet. She's ugly. I like pigs, but this one is ugly. UGLY!

Alee, we had pigs when I was a kid. They're pretty easy to train in regards to housebreaking (we ate ours, they weren't pets) because they're very clean animals. People get the wrong impression because they eat like pigs, and they wallow in mud (but just to keep cool as they don't sweat); but they're very neat given the opportunity.

the man at the auction only bid to help raise money that he would then donate to the "cause"... he bid high so that the money would go to the kids' events.It's a fun way for folks to raise money/donate, but then since he did not need or want the pig he gave it back for them to auction again so that they could raise even more money for the "cause"...hope I explained it.This happens alot at kid's 4-H events and so forth..it is a way for the community to raise needed moneies for events/projects...and also a way for some folks to remain somewhat "anonymous" as donors to projects.

Whatcom County, why Tracey you're right across the border from me. My future in-laws are in Lynden, about a half an hour south of us.

Is it male or female? This sounds like so much fun.
Just wondering- is the piglet going to be a pet? I know some people keep pigs indoor and keep them like dogs. I am not quite sure how you would go about potty training one though!
Have you every raised a pig before? That is one farm animal that I haven’t ever raised before. Good luck!
