I want a dog bed made of the memory foam with the bolster on the back to protect the wall. My dog is huge about 106 pounds. I am looking for a memory foam bed. Has anyone made one? ideas on where to get the memory foam. Or does anyone know of a reasonable web source. I found one I like thru Orvis but it is $500. Must be a cheaper way.

I just saw an *awesome* pattern for a home-made *MAKE-DO* dog bed. There is a great magazine called Ready Made (I didn't even know about it until I bought the book - much like MJF.)

ETA: I'm just presenting this idea as a pattern. I'm with the other posters that you could make one with the memory foam from BB&B. $500 for a dog bed? I love my fur child...but Orvis is *way* out of line!!!

OOHH-I did this very thing!
My dog weighs just under 100 lbs, and is almost 13 years old. So,she needed some extra support for her joints. Sooooo, we went to linens-n-things (with a 20% off coupon), and bought a memory foam bed topper. We then cut it in half, trimmed the edges, and put it inside her current bed, on top of the insert already in it. So, the lucky girl actually has two layers of memory foam. I don't know if it was that or the glucosamine, but she's had some extra spring in her step.

It might be cheaper just to get the dog his own lounge chair with pads. Just a generic one from wal-mart. : )

What about going to a place like Linens and Things and buying a memory foam bed topper? You can make it as big as you want and alittle spray adhesive will glue the foam together if you want to make it thicker. You can use the "extra" to make your wall bumper.
Make a washable slipcover and you are ready to go! Probably less than $80.00. Orvis has neat stuff, but too pricey!
Foam cuts very easily with an electric carving knife! Who knew?! Last time I was at the upholstery shop I asked him what to use for outdoor chair foam and it works like a charm!

I found a dog bet with a bolster on the back at Bi-Mart (I notice you're in WA, maybe there's one near you). It was $35-$40. Maybe you could buy one of those and add the memory foam.
I love the bed and hope the store stocks them again so good ol' Shadowdog can have a nice bed on the patio, too.
