Posted - Dec 21 2020 : 4:42:04 PM My Little friend, Radio, was back tonight. He is so cute. He has two friends, but they seem more afraid of us. Radio keeps a distance, as do we, but is not afraid and does not fear us. He comes and eats in the chicken run when the chickens have gone to bed. He does not mess with my girls, or eggs.
Opossums are opportunistic feeders. If they are not starving, won’t eat chickens, usually. I don’t think he will get mine. They are bigger than he is, and the one time I think he may have stuck his head in the coop before I closed it I found him running for his life from my Rooster, Mr. Cleo Roo and my nosy, bossy hen, Mama. It has been over a year. He lives in the thicket on my driveway. I was worried about him after the bitter cold and bad snow, but tonight he peeked his out from under the coop to say hello.
Cutie pie!

Posted - Jan 03 2021 : 5:34:47 PM I hope your little friend is alright. He's probably just talking a tour of the area and he'll be back LOL!!
I've never had a "good" encounter with a opossum. When I was little I would feed the cats their food and milk (outside farm cats) and one night there was a opossum at the bowl. I'm not sure who scared who more! Just a few years ago I thought a cat went behind the skid loader. I went to say hi to the kitty and see if it was one of ours or a new one - the hissing I got was not from a kitty!!!! I've never thought they were cute (probably from all the hissing they did at me!) but they sure are funny critters - cuddling up with our cats from time to time.

Posted - Dec 30 2020 : 10:31:01 AM He was back yesterday, lol. I have to say I was a little happy to see him. I know not to get too close because he is a wild animal, but gosh he is adorable. Little guy, I am thinking he is the runt of the litter.

Posted - Dec 28 2020 : 3:41:56 PM Hi Barbara, when I was in Texas last, we went to an animal sanctuary and we got to give treats to a raccoon. The little paw was so cute! Just be careful in the wild!
Radio has come every day, just about. I worried about him the night of the big storm, but he was there the next day, on Christmas. Last night, the coop door got closed somehow, so when I went to close up, fhe flock was out. If he tried to visit, I am sure he got scared. I was a little sad to see him not there today, either.

Posted - Dec 28 2020 : 09:17:08 AM I do love possums--- we feed several and a large bunch of racoons. One racoon comes to the door and takes a piece of bread from my hand---and touches my hand as it takes it---so sweet. We have only had one possum kill a chicken several years ago. I guess that is why we feed them---so they won't eat our chickens, All is well if we take care of all our critter friends.
