Posted - Mar 18 2007 : 12:54:58 PM Hi Karen, I had no idea about their life span. Guess I'd better scout out some Godparents for my donkey!!! Thanks for the info!

Posted - Mar 18 2007 : 08:09:25 AM Luzy, that is hilarious! If you get a chance post a picture of him - not the x rated one, of course. :o)
Did y'all know these donkeys can live for 40 years?!?!? I was surprised to hear that.

Posted - Mar 17 2007 : 2:36:29 PM I have a 2 yr old mini donkey named Jeremiah and he is the sweetest thing ever!! I swear he thinks he's a pup and should be allowed to crawl into your lap to be petted. He has the sweetest disposition I could ever hope for. I feel like I won the donkey lottery with him!! In case ya couldn't tell, I'm totally in love with my donkey!!!
I have a funny story to tell about him, but be warned.....It's colorful, and sorta X rated so don't read if you think you might be offended.
Last Fall we had some college interns helping out here at the farm. We noticed 2 cute college girls over by Jeremiah and giggling and pointing. He was ya know, showing off(he had an extension). My husband said "Hey, are you embarrassing my donkey?" One of the girls said," Oh no, He doesn't have ANYTHING to be embarrassed about"! My Hubby wanted to crawl under a rock!

Posted - Mar 15 2007 : 06:35:05 AM We are in the process of adopting a few of these darling creatures for our farmette. I visited a lady who raises mini donkeys a few weeks ago and she suggested if we just want pets we would be happier with a gelding. She said once the jacks get older they think about one thing. LOL!
So now I'm just trying to decide which way I want to go. There was one female there that was sooo pretty and she seemed to claim me as her person.
I'll post a picture once we get them home.

Posted - Mar 14 2007 : 05:07:51 AM Morning everyone! Good to get on here. Kinda backed up with quilting! That's not a bad thing, just no time for computer. Taking one of our dogs to the vet this morning for a spay!
No Beverly, both of the guys are still Jacks which I think is the problem. Just the cost and travel to have it done are not available right now. My sister has a stock trailer, but between the both of us, funds and she is about 50 miles from me, we just haven't done it yet. They are adorable. They bray to us when they see us in the yard, or hear a vehicle coming in or see my husband. It is so sweet sounding. But again, they are beginning to be very strong!!!! Hard to handle even with a halter on. But we love them.
Well, I'm off for the last spay. We have six girl dogs!!!!! And we are behind on this one. She is two years old and in between heats! We also live 25 miles from town!
Have a great day! And I'm checking up on you all!!!!

Posted - Mar 14 2007 : 04:07:18 AM Thanks, Gloria... Were yours ever gelded? Our horses and ponies are all geldings....no mares around (because the guys tend to get stupid around the gals, so we don't give them any opportunity) We were planning to geld the burro. Any more advice? Sure appreciated your reply!

Posted - Mar 13 2007 : 7:51:39 PM Hi Beverly, I haven't posted in a while, but was checking emails tonight and thought I'd drop a line to you. We have two miniature Jacks! We got them when they were three months old. Brothers, same dad, different moms born 1 day apart, and they have never been apart. They did well together until the hormones kicked in. They will be 4 years old in October this year. They are getting stronger and stronger and are acting out now. But until recently, they were just little boys. But they are fighting through the fence, and we are keeping them separate now. And we spend alot of time with ours. They are still our little boys, but I am more careful around them. They are cute as buttons. One has the typical color, grey with the brown cross on his back, and the other one is white with brown spots. I really enjoy having them, but just concerned of their change. They are just growing up! Are your horses and pony a gelding? Girls would do good. But the boys seem to be very affectionate. But they too still bite and kick, especially when it's cold. They love cold weather!
Hope this helps! Ours are just pets! They have never seen a (girl). I think that would really change them!
