Posted - Oct 26 2018 : 06:42:09 AM Well, if you read my posts or have been on the Suburban farmgirl blog, you know we LOVE our fur babies, and that our little chihuahua has been sick off and on for the four years we have had him. He got a terrible, life-threatening case of pancreatitis four years ago after we first got him, one week after getting his shots and one day after someone at a festival fed him a chocolate chip cookie.
We had three plus years with no flare ups until this past April. After many emergency visits, countless tests and vet visits, antibiotics, special food, etc...we have have a diagnosis.
His little body doesn’t produce the enzyme from his pancreas. SO we now have to sprinkle an enzyme on his food ten minutes before he eats it. I am sooo happy to report that so far, so good.
He’s doing great and back to his old self. Hopefully it stays rosy long term. The only thin is the vet wants to put him on a chew that has probiotics. That is okay, except it has two kinds of oil in them. I am worried since now he is stable that it will bother his gi tract. Vet says try it. Finger crossed.
Anyone else have pups with this problem? I hope you have happy outcome stories. We love our baby boy so much. He is the sweetest little dog.

Posted - Oct 31 2019 : 06:51:21 AM Hi Farmgirls!
It has been a year! I am happy to report that with the special food, rice, and the enzyme powder - knock on wood - my lil’ fur boy is doing well! He is happy, has gained and maintained weight, and so far, has not had any issues. Hopefully he continues on as stable as he has. So far so good! Thank you all for checking in!

Posted - Oct 30 2019 : 4:10:38 PM Fur babies rule for sure---and when they have good health it sure makes for happiness. But dark times sure do come. I have kept so many animals and when they die it is so sad and usually from something bad. I have spent way more money on pets health care than care for myself. Hope your fur baby does well Nicole.

Posted - Oct 30 2019 : 11:47:03 AM Sorry, Nicole, about your little fella. It may be that with the sprinkling of the enzyme sustains him very much like other medicine/supplements. It sounds manageable so that he may live a normal life. Winnie, sorry to hear about your kitty. Fur babies never leave our hearts and always go too soon.
Keep shining! Natalie

Posted - Oct 30 2018 : 05:34:45 AM Thank you, everyone. I hope he stays stable, too. I know that this disease will probably be what eventually "does him in", but we take everyday and spoil him rotten.
Winnie, I am so sorry to hear about your little kitty. Big hugs to you.

Posted - Oct 26 2018 : 07:34:07 AM My Chihuahua had two lesions on her pancreas. Surgery corrected it, but she has problems eating dry food without throwing up. We soften the food for her. She seems to be fine with that. The surgery was very expensive, but she is totally worth it.
