Posted - Feb 26 2007 : 5:37:42 PM I have decided to call this little one Bush after my poodle I recently lost. He is a doll baby but has a problem with what my vet believes are the nerve endings in his spine from his tail docking. I have contacted breeder and she offered to take him back and pay me back but I told her I have bonded with him and can't send him back. Not sure how this will affect him but right now it makes his tail pull hard to either side and when it does it twists his lower back and then he goes back to check his tail - don't think it is anything life threatening at all but also breeder has offered to refund my money and let me keep the poodle and I do believe she said I could have another but not sure if I want to take another. He is tiny and does not look like he will be a minature, looks to be toy - gosh but he eats a lot of food. His coat is very pretty and as you see in the picture he has made himself right at home with Tilly the Terrible hehehe. He has bonded with me and cries for me and when I hold him he nuzzles up around my neck under my hair....yeah right...send him back....NOT. I will have more pictures of him soon!

Posted - Feb 28 2007 : 1:49:22 PM He is still doing the twisting thing with the tail spasms and I have been putting his ointment on. I do not see any signs of him being irritated from grooming. He has appt with other vet next week so I can see what is up. He is a doll baby and very loving.

Posted - Feb 26 2007 : 8:39:19 PM He makes me think of all the intelligence that a poodle has. He is extremely bright for a little over 8wks old. Apparently she has been doing tails herself for a long time. I did a lot of research into damage to the nerves from a docking and it measures up to that. Hopefully it will not bother him too much. He is so very cute and I love taking him in bed with me and watching him play - he loves playing and he and Tilly sleep close to eachother. I just checked on him a bit ago and he was sleeping with his pile of toys and his fleece baby binky. Bonding sure takes place quickly. They are so trusting little dogs - I just could not imagine returning him and not knowing what would happen to him.

Posted - Feb 26 2007 : 6:39:51 PM I do hope this is resolved for you and the pup, Kathy. Sounds like he's getting a little nerve ''shock'' when he moves his tail and doesn't know why, so has to check it out. Hmmm, makes me wonder if the breeder has a lot of experience docking tails...I know nerve endings in humans regenerate at the rate of an inch a year, sound like this one has a ''short circuit''. Poor baby. You've had way too much grief with your furry kids recently. Ronna |

Posted - Feb 26 2007 : 5:54:23 PM The breeder told me before I got him that he had a "gay" tail and a gay tail a poodle is supposed to carry over their back. He does sometimes but tail up and it wags like normal then has a sort of spasm and goes real hard to either side - don't quite know if it hurts him or not, but the vet said it does seem to bother him when it happens. Breeder thought maybe she clipped to close near rump and that is irritated but there are no signs of any irritation and I even put a little A & D Ointment on his butt. Bad thing about buying a pup you can't see other than in pictures is you can't see them moving.

Posted - Feb 26 2007 : 5:46:25 PM aww, he's so cute. wonder if the vet could fix the problem the puppy has.maybe some kind of splint as the puppy grows to keep the tail straight? (I dunno??) but he's a cute puppy, a pretty color.
