I haven't posted for a while because our cable modem was down for almost a week. Finally the service man came last night and the first place I headed for was here! It might take me a while to catch up on all the posts.

I had a bad week last week. My dog Chip, who was 8 years old, had to be euthanized on Friday. He had not eaten anything for almost 12 days, I had him at the animal hospital for the last 5 days and the vet thought he probably had a tumor on his liver. I did not opt for more extensive diagnostics because it was obvious to me that he was probably not going to make it anyway.

Chip was a very good dog. My youngest daughter adopted him as a puppy, then when she moved out he stayed with me. He was a lab/German Shepherd mix with possibly some St. Bernard thrown in. He was always a pup at heart, friendly, a good watchdog. We have wi-fi in our home and we opted not to install the WEP security - because we could depend on WOOF security! If anyone got close enough to the house to steal our bandwidth, Chip would let us know!

It seems so strange that he is not there any more. As I told my kids, my husband travels a lot and it is not unusual for him not to be at home when I come home, but Chip was always there to welcome me. I am really going to miss him.

Brenda, I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost our Sadie, a Golden Retriever, to cancer this last November. It really hurts to lose such a close friend.
If I may, I might recommend a book called, "Dog Heaven". I can't remember the author, but I read it at Borders and absolutely loved it. It is in the children's section near the children's religious books.

Brenda, I am so sorry for your loss of Chip - tears are streaming down my face, I know all to well the feeling of emptiness and loss - but I like to think in my mind that my poodle Holly and Chip have met in dog heaven and are wagging their tails down at us.
So very sorry

Oh wow, there's a lot going on at your house. I'm so sorry about Chip. It hurts so much to lose a furry friend. They leave such a big empty spot behind.

A great big hug to you Brenda! What a powerful impact he made on your lives, they really do become members of the family in their own hairy way. You have my sympathy, it isn't easy and he will always be an original but I suspect you will let some other lucky creature into your family when the time is right.

with a happy heart

My thoughts are with you, Brenda. I lost my buddy Jackson a few years back and I remember how hard it was to deal with the "empty spaces"-the hardest one for me was getting up and going downstairs in the morning without him there to greet me.

Again, my thoughts are with you.

Brenda, I'm sorry, too. I know all to well that quiet sound after losing a dog--my Lily was 14 and for months, I couldn't sleep without her snoring or patting down the hallway.

I am sorry this is such a blue valentine for you. It will get better, and you know, sadly, there are plenty of loving souls out there to carry on Chip's legacy when the time is right.

Big Hugs to you.

Just think of all of the roads there are...all of the things I haven't seen....yet.
