No photos yet, but triplets yesterday!!! I'll see if I can't remember to take the camera to the lambing sheds tomorrow. I get down there, and right as I see the new little ones, I think - "Gee, I should take a picture of this" but I seem to forget when I'm walking out the door of my house. I'm so glad to be part of the springtime lambing fest!!!

Robin, shame on you  I just looked at your blog, you silly girl! That pic is a riot! Contrats on all the babies.
I'm still waiting for my first girl to lamb. Should be sometime this month...she's been showing since the second month, but is now dropping (hips bones have been showing for a week), vulva is just a wee bit swollen and there's a tiny udder developing. I've got two first timers this year, plus one three year old romney who'd not due for another month. I'll be lambing until June because one of the ewe lambs didn't take until last month!

It's in full swing around here - triplets night before last, twins and a single last night, and another single tonight. A couple other little ones didn't make it - they were gone before I even knew they were around. That always makes me so sad -- even if I couldn't have done anything, I'd like to have tried. Ahhhhh...the arrival of the permanent-seeming bottles of lamb replacer milk in the refrigerator. It smells strangely like infant formula! Scary!!!

Good Luck to everyone this lambing season. I remember when my daughter was in high school - the teacher in charge of special ed would bring in a lamb that the mom didnt want or just a triplet and he would have the kids help with the feeding and everything. They would have their pampers only and would just do a certain cry/talk when they saw certain kids.

Lambing season has started at my house.
Yesterday I had a set of twins from a ewe I thought was at least a week away and before I had them in the barn and under control. Another ewe had dropped a single lamb in the field. I was one busy lady for a while.
Oh and the 2 ewes I thought were ready any minute ,still haven't had their lambs.I have been doing this for 20 years and you can never out guess the ewes.
I have Romney and Romney/Romeldale CVM Cross.
Also I just had Carpul Tunnel surgery last Monday on my right hand so needless to say it has been quite interesting. I am getting the stronest left arm ever.

I love those pictures, where were you shopping with your lamb? My daughters both raised a bottle baby last year, from friends farms. We were there when my daughter Alinas' lamb was born! We have Jacob and Jacob crosses. They always look like tiny dairy calves! How DO I add pictures? I have some great ones of her sleeping with "Panda", Panda used to curl right up under her chin!

Those pics are great! I have a bunch of Columbia/Rambolais mixes, some Suffolk and two little Icelandic/Navajo-Churros. I am raising the Icelandics for fiber, but the others are dual-purpose. Their wool goes to the Utah Woolen Mills Cooperative and the meat goes to our buyers. This time of year is SO much fun on the farm - preparing for all of the new babes. I love it!

LOL, Shannon! I can't imagine many hubbies would be thrilled with a lamb in their bed, let alone being told on 
Here's the bottle baby we had a couple years ago. She's with one of our dogs, who adores lambing season (not sure if he thinks he's a substitute momma, or if he's dreaming of lamb chops, but he's always snuggling up to them.) The other is of Tameka on a shopping trip

When I read about having things ready for any lambs that needed extra help it made me think of a funny story.
Last year I took on my first bummer lamb from a friends farm. They give them away, because of the costs and time of bringing them up. Anyway, I waited for weeks for a bummer. I had everything ready the milk replacer, clean bottles, towels, heat lamp, everything. Finally I got the call. My husband brought her home in a box, she was only 2 hours old and if you tucked her legs under the size of a new human baby. I instantly fell in love with her. Then the worry set in she had a hard time with the bottle. I wasn't sure if I was doing things right and didn't want her to get dehydrated. Finally, about 11:00pm she had a full tummy and was ready for bed. We set her all up in the laundry room, heat lamp and towels just so. As I was walking to my room the power went out. I waited and waited, it didn't come back on. Her only source of heat was the lamp and our house gets very cold. I was tired and just wanted to go to bed, so I laid towels on my side of the bed then picked her up and wrapped her in towels. She slept next to me all night long and didn't even cry or go to the bathroon once! My hubby didn't even complain much. He is embarrassed when I tell the story though.lol

We still have a little over three weeks to go before we start lambing. I realized after reading your post I better get my stuff ready, time sure slips by fast. I am praying that we stay with twins but I have feeling that one of my girls is going to surprise me with triplets. She is huge!!!! Good luck and let me know how yours are doing.

Well, I'm very curious...Julie mentioned looking on the calendar to see Lambing at Libbie's. Is that a personal calendar, or is that another feature of the MJ website that I've missed?
Libbie - do you raise the sheep for fiber or meat? I have a friend that raises the naturally colored sheep and another friend that has the wool processing business. Together they produce the most wonderful merino/wool blends. Now if I could just learn to spin!
I would love to have a few acres and raise a few goats - angora probably - to incorporate with their fine wool. We are looking, but just haven't found the right place yet.
I'm heading south for the winter. Some parts of my body already have a head start! |

Thanks! I'm so excited - it's a really great time of year - sad sometimes, as we've never not lost at least one, but SOOooooo exciting! I'll bet that a flock of little lambies WOULD train a horse not to jump at things - they're about the most jumpy and cute things I've ever seen when they get to be a couple of weeks old!

Oh, I think the little lambs are the cutest things! There used to be some in a pasture across the road from a barn where I used to train, and they were great for the horses to get used to things. Some would be just bug-eyed at the little bouncing lambies.
A friend of mine has a good sized flock in the Pacific Northwest, and is about to begin lambing too. We don't hear much from him then; he's either catching, feeding, birthing, cleaning, or sleeping. But the pictures are very much worth it.

Hi, Julie! Thanks for asking!!! Nope - no little ones yet, but the ewes are getting VERY ready. I can't wait - I have all of my laundry baskets lined with clean towels "just in case" a little one needs to have a bottle and a night by the warm woodstove. We usually get a few that need extra care, and, to tell you the truth, I kind of like it! I'm guessing, from looking at them yesterday, that it'll be a week or so, but you never know!
