Today is butchering day. I've got 13 turkeys that'll be destined for either the freezer or for customers' Thanksgiving.

I spent the day yesterday prepping my 'killing station'. Everything has been disinfected... dipping pot, knives, table, ice chests, etc...

A full propane tank has been hooked up to the burner. I note this because a few months ago on chicken butchering day, my propane tank fizzled out in the middle of the task and I had to run to the store. I do not want to repeat that.

This year, I estimate my smallest turkey to be about 15 pounds and the largest to be about 35 pounds.

Marie, you have quite an operation going. Things have changed from when my mother would select an old fat hen for the pot and wring it's head off. Maybe that's why I'm not too crazy about cooking chicken. I'll eat it if someone else does it but I don't want to have anything to do with it.

I had so many interruptions today and only got 3 turkeys processed. THREE!!! When I needed THIRTEEN done. Ugh!!

Yum! We just picked our butchered turkeys up from a local farm on Saturday. They have the best turkeys :) we get two every year... One for Thanksgiving, and one for Christmas :) Both were about 24-25 pounds. Enjoy butchering day. We hope that will be using a few years... Butchering our own.
