they look to be a draft mule. The horse side of the breeding pair being Belgians. Mules are a cross between a donkey and a horse and are generally sterile.

We don't own any horses, but I've always told my husband that if someone wanted to give me a Friesian, I wouldn't turn it away ;)

A friend here locally has a pair of Percheron. Gray gelding and a black mare. He has used them in harness and for riding. Very calm, easy keeping horses. And BEAUTIFUL.

We do not, however, intend to in the future. My mom's family is Old Order Amish... so they use horses for it all... be it working the farm or driving the family buggy. I'll write my cousin later this week and ask what breed they use for their farm.
