Yesterday midday (05/11/15), this little cutie, a Longhorn heifer calf, joined our hobby herd of Longhorns. My hubby decided to name her "Beautiful" . . . he's funny about names!

Her momma is an almost all white Longhorn, but with some ;small "butterscotch" spots here and there and a very impressive set of horns. We've never had a calf with markings quite like hers!

"Beautiful" is most likely to be the last calf as we no longer have a bull and are gradually paring down the herd, hopefully to not have any by the time all the steers are butchered.

Longhorns are interesting because you never know how they are going to be marked and each one has a different configuration to their horns.

Thanks for letting me share!

Taken just about 1/2 hour ago.

I was able to reach through the fence and pet her for quite a while. Momma came over and sniffed me through the fence, but she knows me and didn't seem too concerned.

The cow directly behind "Beautiful" on the right is "Duncan", a steer who just turned one year old. He's her "big brother".

Taken yesterday afternoon, just a few hours old.

We've started moving the cows to the yard of the neighbor to the pasture for their supper graze where, after all our May rain, the grass is very tall. It was funny to watch "Beautiful" disappear into the grass and we could only see the tips of her ears when she had her head up to try to see where either her momma was or where she was going.

While waiting for my hubby to set irrigation sprinklers in the pasture tonight, I enjoyed watching "Beautiful" get a bath from her momma.
The other calf, "Freckles" (she was born in December) was also getting a bath from her momma.

"Beautiful" is learning how the routine now when my hubby goes to move the cows from one pasture to another. She and the other calf, "Freckles" are new to this but are learning!

My hubby has them trained pretty well! They know when he says "go to the gate" they know exactly what to do . . . and they do it!

"Beautiful" is doing well, growing like a weed and becoming more and more independent. What a cutie!
"Freckles", the calf born Dec. 11th is so grown up too! The two of them hang out together!

She certainly is "Beautiful" Cj. That would have been my first thought when she arrived. I can see why your DH named her that. Thanks for sharing! Your Longhorns are impressive!

She really is beautiful. I was at TSC today and saw a sign: "Farmgirls have nice calves". Hmmm, wonder what that means...?
