My little dog Maggie, a pure bred rat terrier, is not a mouser. She shows no interest in being a hunter, but she does like to eat. Today I made cornbread for the birds because I felt sorry for them with all the snow on the ground.
Maggie knew I went to the back door with the cornbread. An hour later she came to be to be let out. I had forgotten about the cornbread but she hadn't. As soon as she was on the deck she starting tracking; went down the steps with her nose to the ground, I mean snow, and tracked across the yard till she came to what was left of the cornbread. She ate it and came in.
I wonder if mice smelled like cornbread Maggie would be a mouser.

She keeps me on my toes. On bad MS days she's the reason I get up to either feed her or let her out. Now I have 3 chicks to look after. Talking about the chicks I have caught them watching Maggie from their cage. So far the bonding is going good. They like it when she licks them and Maggie doesn't seem to mind them pecking her nose.

That's cute. I used to have a cat that didn't know what to do with mice. I saw one run right up to her in the barn once and she picked up her foot as if to say "what the heck is that" and looked at me to rescue her. She was a loving girl and my GSD's best friend but she never did hunt. Animals are so wonderful with all their different personalities.
