Today I went out to gather eggs, and found fleas on the eggs in the nest. I am assuming that since more than one chick used that nest, that they all have fleas. Anyone have this too?? What can I use to rid my girls from these critters. And their house, too. Help me girls, please......

I agree with Denise about using DE. You can also dust the chickens with it if necessary.

OK, after checking my birds thoroughly I did not see any critters on them. So I think you are right Beverly it's my coop that has the fleas. I think they are fleas because they jump around.

Birds, like any warm blooded animal, can get fleas. Though mites and lice are much more common.

You can treat any of these with the DE.

I have never heard of a flea on a bird, but they do get mites and lice. Are you sure you are not seeing red poultry mites/lice and not fleas? Can you get a pic? Both are easily treated, too.

I have never heard of chickens having fleas? Do they really have them or does the coop just have them? I know they get lice but never heard of fleas///

No as long as it is in the chicken coop it should take care of it.

I have not had it happen with my chickens, just dogs. You can sprinkle Diatomaceous Earth in their house. It will not hurt them and will kill the fleas.
