Our Large Black Gilt Trudy had her first litter Monday evening

She is proving to be a wonderful Mama! She had 5 babies but accidentally stepped on one when our other pigs had a tussle outside of the shelter which freaked her out. So, we have 2 girls and 2 boys. After an hour of being born, one of the little boys kept running around Trudy so we named him Mario (after Mario Andretti :)). Day 3 they started nesting and rooting and last night they attempted to eat feed. We soak our feed in water or milk along with wheat shorts.

Trudy sniffs each piglet making sure that all are accounted for. She also 'washes' them which was cute to see. When she licked a little ones face it's back end went up like a see saw :) Her eyes have never been bigger or brighter. I would say that motherhood is agreeable to Trudy.

I think Trudy is one contented pig. Little oinkers are so cute!
