I have a 2 year old Goldendoodle that from day one never messed in the house. She is now leaving me a pile to wake up to. She gets fed first thing in the morning, she has been wormed, as she will bring home lots of dead things which I look for and get rid of. Our routine is the same every night and has been since day one.This is a deal breaker.
Help.

Diana: Could there be something on the other side of the doggie door stopping her from going out to do her business? That has happened to one of my dogs. He refused to go out because he could smell a skunk on the other side!

Hi Debi,
This sounds like a form of grieving. She's carrying the pup because it connects her to the litter but is probably also looking for your mom to "show" her.
When Candy does this, kneel or sit on the floor behind her with her between your legs. If you can get her to sit, that's perfect, if not, just work with it. Place her back against your front and very loosely wrap your arms around her. Make very soft, short, crooning sounds at the back of her head while you stroke her chest.
See if she will give you the pup while you do this but don't take him away, keep him there with the both of you. If you aren't sure what I mean by crooning sounds, listen closely to her when she's around her litter. You should hear her making tiny noises to them. Just imitate that.
If she is unpredictable when around the pups then don't try this when she's carrying one. If she's fine, just do it slowly and gently. Don't force her, or try to actively restrain her. If she wants to move away, let her.
Also, sit with her when she's with the litter and praise her greatly for everything: what a great mom she is, how lovely the pups are, whatever pops into your head.
It may take a few sessions but this should help.

I would say that here is something that is not right with this puppy and she know it and takes it with her. I would really check out this puppy.

Speaking of help with the dog.... has anyone ever heard of this? My mom passed away on March 11, we have her dog and 5 puppies which were born on March 1. Candy (the mom) carries one of the puppies around the house all of the time ~ the same puppy! She walks around and around with this puppy in her mouth and he squeals the whole time. I can not for the life of me figure out what she is doing.... any suggestions?

I have gone back to our first choice of food which is home/hand made rice chicken pumpkin broccoli cottage cheese bran. sometimes beans No problems for 3 days
I think she has an allergy to even good store bought dog food.
Cindy I will next go to the vet it this fails but it really is not in my budget so I hope this will work.

My dog Boxer made messes during the last year of his life. It was neurological. I suggest a thorough check-up for your dog.

Laurie he messes started before the fire.
Betty, I really think this is a physical thing. Not a missing my mom thing. Last night I brought her in, we came upstairs I watched TV she looked at me stretched and went to the basement and her couch. And I did not see her until the next morning. It is cooler in the basement she has her own couch and blanket and pillow. Fresh water every night. She loves her couch she sighs like ahhhh this is great. She has her choice.
I have tried 3 different foods.

I believe Laurie has made a good observation. I would call the vet and ask for a referral to an animal behavior specialist. Before the appointment, write down everything that the dog does, has done and what has changed in the dog's life. Include even those things that seem small and insignificant. They may be significant for the dog.

She still would probably rather be with her humans. Would you like to be all alone during the night when you know there is someone upstairs that you would like to be with?

Diana,
This may be a total long shot, but perhaps the fire that you had spooked her in some way? Dogs (and animals in general) seem to have extra senses, so to speak, so maybe this is her way of trying to get your attention? Maybe since the fire happened at night, she is now "afraid" of the evening time, especially being alone downstairs?
As I said, I am just "reaching" here, but it's the first thing that came to my mind when I read your post. Worth a thought maybe?

She has a dog door and comes and goes as needed. At night she is brought in at 9:00 given run of the basement and then let out again at 6:00. It has been this way since day one.
Now I get greeted with a mess. Never was one before.

What is the doggy potty schedule? I take my dog out first thing in the morning, once during the day and last thing at night for the express purpose of going potty. My dog knows exactly what it means to "go outside". Maybe the dog needs a schedule change.
