Our family adopted our very first cat three weeks ago and we just wanted to share.

She's a three year old siamese with big blue eyes and weighs barely 5 pounds fully grown. She's sweet, yet has a sassy streak we all find funny. Her name is Princess Emily and my four daughters (ages 11, 9, 6 and 3) worship the ground she walks on (which she seems to think is a-ok!)

We got her from a rescue society called Happy Tails Cat Sanctuary in Chesterland, Ohio. She was apparently originally ditched outside a city shelter while it was closed (who DOES something like that to an animal?)

We've never had a pet cat before, so this is new to all of us, but we're having fun with it.

Again, just thought we would share.

So true - I can't speak for what she sees, I don't have cat senses. It is a bit like having a mini-panther in the family. She's remarkable.

Ah! How do you know there is nothing there when they pounce. I am told that a cat can see into the ethereal realm. Cats love to hide and perch. They will also lay in the sun even on the hottest days to conserve the energy it takes to keep themselves warm. Remember they are predators and our house cats used to be much larger.

Thanks everyone! We're still having a great time with her! And since we've never had a cat before, we're learning all their funny little ways. Like when she pounces on a shadow (claws out and with a ferocious look on her face, even though nothing is there!) And how we find her sleeping in the oddest places - like inside an empty cubby or on top of a bookcase.

Oh, Marie, I'm sorry you lost such a beautiful, wonderful animal companion! I am so glad you had so many years of joy with her - I hope we have just as many!

I wish I could upload a photo - I can't seem to manage it through my BlackBerry, and our computer died awhile ago and we haven't gotten a new one.

If anyone wants to see a photo, email me and I'll send one!

Cats are so wonderful. This is my cat Lotus. She died about a year ago at the age of nineteen.

We adopted her from the local Humane Society at 5 1/2 months old. She had two litters which she took very good care to raise correctly. She never had serious health problems and no behavior problems. She was very attached to me. She died of old age so peacefully. She is my first, only and best cat I have had.
