My grands used to fed their chickens warm outmeal on cold mornings and the chickens always loved it. So with things frozen solid here this morning , I did the same. They LOVED it too...anyone else do this? Any thoughts? Is it ok to fed them things like that?

I have been known to make warm oatmeal for my hens and turkeys. And dogs, and ducks, and geese, and cow...with mollasses, and me lol |

Loving the chicken posts. Just moved to western WA fr SoCal & this is the first time we've had chickens. Getting lots of tips fr you all. Ours seem to be little beggars so its good to see all that we can feed them. We're not even sure what breeds we have, they are egg layers. Poss. Buff Orpingtons & Rhode Island Reds.

I have been taking all of my leftovers from the fridge, adding oatmeal, covering in water, and heating up for them. They are in heaven.

I have "teenage" chickens that are about eight weeks old. I am in looovvve with them! They even eat out of my hand now. I am so glad to see I am not the only one who loves their chickens. Thanks for the oatmeal tip...great idea.

I have been heating all their scraps up in the microwave lately with this severe weather...they esp love pasta warmed up

Michele, I havn't been on here in a LONG time but I have a chicken question. I have 20 hens and I am only getting 4-5 eggs a day. I have done everything I can think of but still only a few eggs. My hens are only 2 years old they free range during the day and I give them laying pellets with omega 3 added to it. They all kinds of scraps and Oatmeal at night. Do you have any suggestions?

Love to see you spoil your kids, I make up either oatmeal or stone cut oats in the crockpot all winter long for my kids & will add raisins or dried cranberries to it for the extra sugar to help keep them warm. Most of the winter they get a hot breakfast & the oatmeal or stone cut oats may also have pumpkin in it &/or homemade yogurt...I cook up lots of pumpkin each fall & have quart size baggies of it in the chickens own little freezer. As most here know I tend to really spoil my kids all year around & they seem to enjoy it & stay healthier for it.

I feed mine whatever they will eat scrap wise along with their free range and store feed :)
They love warm oatmeal when the weather is cold but really like just the dry oats also
