Michele, he is a Finn ram. Wool breed. I do have Katahdin also that do shed their wool. They remind me of Vikings when their wool starts coming off in the spring. I had one ewe that we finally had to shear because hers just wouldn't fall off from her back and it was driving me crazy!
Linda, he does have some pretty wool for sure. I have a bag full ready for me to do something with. I'll breed him with my 4 Finn ewes soon. He and Annabelle had a pretty little ewe lamb a few months ago. She's so cute. Little Buttercup.

Kris I was looking at the little pile of wool you had piled up. The krimp in his wool is beautiful and so is the color.He has a really good fleece and hopefully will pass that on to his lambs. His wool would be wonderful to spin it would make for a wonderful lofty yarn.I hope you can get his fleece off and you can use his wool.

Maybe it is a combination of the shot, the heat, and stress. Is it shetlands that can shed wool? I don't remember for sure. I hope he is doing better today.

Linda, it's coming off both sides like this. It was LA200 that I gave him. He's so wooly I'd never see a wound on him. I need to get shears next time some money comes in. I'll shear him again before I start breeding. It's hot here.
I remember when Darla was sick this past winter and I had to give her antibiotics, she kind of did the same thing. While she was being sheared, there were whole bald spots like this on her. I couldn't use her wool at all. So I guess that's what's going on with Abraham.

Kristin I am not sure what kind of antibiotic you used but I know LA200 can leave injection site abcesses. That could be whats going on and thats why his wool is falling out. When a sheep gets a fever or sick sometimes they can slip their wool. Is the wool coming loose anywhere else besides around the healing wound?
