We started a top bar hive this year!! It is so amazingly cool! I put pictures of it on my blog if you'd like to see what the bees have accomplished in two short weeks! Here's the link: http://troutwife.blogspot.com/2013/05/our-top-bar-hive.html

I've been thinking about getting a top bar hive, and your success is inspiring!

What a beautiful hive. Grown in love I would be proud of it too if I were you Sheila.

Wow Sheila! Your bees have done very well in a short time! Are they package bees or did you catch a swarm? I have two traditional langstroth hives and hope to make a split for a third hive this summer. I plan to give top bar hives a try in the future.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Sheila my son has 4 regular bee hives. I wanted to try the top bar hive too. My son bought one and made 3 more from looking at the first one. This spring he caught a swarm and put them in. We were amazed how quickly they made comb. I think these top bar hives are really cool. Yours has been very busy. So glad they are working for you. Congrats and good luck!!!

WOW! gives a good visual to the old saying "Busy as a bee", hope you get lots of honey when you harvest. Is this the only hive you have? I considered a top-bar hive this year, but we have all the stuff for the traditional hive, so when we pik up the nuc we will use what we have on hand. Great pictures, thanks for sharing.
