A friend sent me this article. I love it! I know there are a lot of dog lovers here. Enjoy!

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM A DOG

A veterinarian was examining a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron and wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were very attached to Belker, and hoped for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.

I told the family it was hopeless, and offered euthanasia for their old pet.

Ron and Lisa thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure to learn death is part of life.

Shane seemed calm, petting the old dog for the last time, Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion.

We sat for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had listened quietly, piped up, "I know why."

Startled, we all turned to him.

What came from this six year olds lips stunned me.

He said, "It takes a long time for people to learn to be happy and to live a good life, and to be nice all the time to everybody.

The six-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
-1. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them;
-1. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride;
-1. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure DELIGHT.
-1. Take naps;
-1. Stretch before rising;
-1. Run, romp, and play daily;
-1. Thrive on attention and let people touch you;
-1. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do;
-1. On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass;
-1. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree;
-1. When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body;
-1. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk;
-1. Be loyal;
-1. Never pretend to be something you're not;
-1. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it;
-1. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently;
There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it.

You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good, so, love the people who treat you right and some of the ones who don't.

Pray for the ones who don't ~ life is too short to be anything but happy.

Falling down is part of LIFE...
Getting back up is LIVING...

Hey girls,

I wrote a really dear to my heart blog entry this week on the Suburban Farmgirl blog. It's about some very special dogs. If you haven't seen it, you might like to take a peek.

Emily, I'll still have lots of Louisiana pictures. We have a camp in Louisiana which we'll be keeping. It'll be a house/camp to come back to Louisiana. I just returned from Texas, and yes, I'll have nice pictures from there. Thank you for the prayers, Emily, how kind and sweet of you. Yes, about the cats and moving them to Texas. I keep telling my hubby we will have memories about that process. The vet will sedate them. However, they still can get sick in their tummies, etc.... Hugs to you.

Marly, I thought I saw something about you moving. How come you're leaving Louisianna? I'm going to miss all of the beautiful pictures of your birds, turtles, and moss covered trees, but I am sure you will find beautiful things in Texas to show us. I will pray for you, Marly. I surely would not want to be in a vehicle with 4 cats for such a long time!!! When do you move?

Laura, thank you! I just adore her. She's very polite, sweet, and she has a good sense of humor.

Sorry I'm late in my reply, Emily. My kitties are fine, but I do believe they ALL know something is about to change. That would be our move to Texas. I think Gracie, my inside cat, is sitting at the kitchen window discussing the move with the outside cats. From what I'm feeling, all my cats are not too happy about the move!

I've been out of the Mary Jane loop for the past few weeks. Just saw this beautiful post! Love it, and thanks for sharing, Marly! Glad everyone is posting pics of their beloved dogs.

This is my dad's dog, Lacey. He adopted her last year from a Collie rescue. Love her to death! She hates having her picture taken so it's a little blurry! Cracks me up because she turns her head, buries it under a pillow, or gets so close to me and puts her head on my shoulder so I can't get the camera in front of her!

Beautiful post, I've seen that before but also never get tired of it. Great reminder. I love all the photos of the dogs. I believe Heaven wouldn't be Heaven unless are fur-babies are all there to greet us someday. I still miss each and every one of mine.

Yes, Diane, I think he had a wonderful life. He was dumped on the side of the highway, and literally crawled to the back door. He was so hungary! I put out three bowls of food, and he ate them all!
He gave to me such a better life. He was my Boy!

Here is a picture of my Luck Dog. He has been in Heaven a little over a year. Like all of you with your dear, loyal friends, I miss him so, so much. He was 22 years old when he passed away. I thank God I have lots of pictures and wonderful memories of him. He was my boy!

Paula: Sophie is so beautiful! When I was a young girl, I had a German Shephard that looked just like Sophie. Her name was Dutchess.
Diane: Oh---Mr. Bean is a hansome fellow. And- I agree with your tag line, 'I am trying to be the person my dogs think I am'. My Luck Dog thought I was the best in the world.
Glad you enjoyed the article, Roxanna.

Marly,
Thank you! Wouldn't it be great if we could all be more like dogs. I have two rescues now that help to keep me young and playful. I also had a beloved old dog that I rescued when he was 9. Mr. Bean gave us 6 more wonderful years. I will always have a place in my heart for him. This is a picture shortly before he passed away in his sleep. He was 15.

Hi Marly, Thank you for the post. It does make a difference. We all miss our furry babies. Sophie will never be forgotten in our house! This is her last photo taken on March 28 last year:

Brought tears to my eyes also. I cry every night missing my dear pet/friend Penny. She was a loving part of my life. I still miss her. It has been almost two months since she passed and just like Shane, I was there when she died.
