Crazy Daisy - she wanders off, then freaks out when she realizes she is alone. She runs all over as if something is chasing her but nothing is there. Preciousness in a feather coat.

Your ladies look so good. They are getting big. I love your brooder
set up, looks very comfy for the birds. Mine was just a card board boxes taped together to make a big box. It was good because I cold dispose of it after I was done. But your looks like it is much more functional. Are these your first chickens?

Thanks!! I do have a secret to remembering their names and telling
them apart. All the ladies wear Hen Saddles each with a different pattern or design on it. I keep some on backup so if they get worn or torn I can take it off and either wash or replace it without loosing track of who is who. You can see some of the saddles in the pic. I will see if I can find a better picture of them. Anyway, that is my secret, not so much a good memory just a matching game.

Here are a few pics of their Hen Fashions

We have two Golden Sex Links, named Gabby and Twila. Hubby named Gabby because she talks all the time. Youngest son named Twila, not sure why. We have one Barred Rock that oldest son named Cleatis, yes after Dukes of hazard, and last my Wyandotte named Henny Penny. We lost Henny Penny a couple weeks ago. Planning on getting a handful of new ones this next month. They are so much fun.

We keep our roosters and hens etc...figured out by a strange method...the gals get named after foods they will probably not be a part of; such as: Alfreda, Parmagiana, Noodle, Sandwich, Nuggets, Fried....you get the picture. Now the roosters are kept in easy order by birth "right"...The Godfeather I, Godfeather II, Godfeather III, and it goes on and on. These were long running jokes in our family way before we actually got very many chickens, but it seems to work on our small flock and everyone gets a good laugh. Plus, who doesn't remember the name of a delicious dish?

I've got my roosters, Hartridge (family name that I just love) although DH calls him Don King (he's a blue Polish with a white top and does have the right "hair"), Sylvester because I love Sly Stone, Sylvester the cat and Sly Stallone and it just seemed to fit him (he's a blue silkie). My silkie girls I call Raisa (after Gorbechov's wife, love her name and they make me think of little old Russian ladies for some reason), the other girls don't have names, although I can tell them apart I haven't named them. My tom turkey is Jasper (family name that I like and Jasper the cat before he became Tom) and my girl is Tish (after a grandmother). Our chukar is named Chuck (Norris but DH calls him Charles Emmerson Winchester III)

Our two new Easter Eggers are named Cadbury and Peep. The Black Sex Links are Soy, Teryaki, and Worchestershire. The Orpingtons are Honey, Curry, and Mustard. We keep joking they're going to develop a complex being named after sauces!

My roos are "Mutton" his is a predominately white Americana, with brown and black tail feathers and his cheek feathers look like mutton-chop whiskers to me and "Flash" another predominantly white Americana with black feathers on his wings and all of his tail, he is a flashy boy. I bought all pullets both times and got a suprise each time.

I only have two hens right now. They are named after my ancestors. My Greatgrandmother and her sister my Great Aunt Jean. So...Agnes and Jean. They are like old biddies hanging around together. Nosey, always together. Even when one is laying the other goes and keeps her company until the deed is done. lol

We had a rooster named Tarzan. He was a beautiful but extremely aggressive banty. We would carry a shovel to fend him off when he was out. Once he came after my husband and ran right into the shovel and knocked himself out.

Only my weird ones get names. I have one rumpless Olive Egger (some crazy genetic throwback to the Araucana), her name is "NoButty." My overly-friendly-to-the-roosters Easter Egger is "Easy" (DH named her). All roosters I keep get names- right now we have King (FBCM) and Cal (Splash Wheaten OE) plus the new barred banty cochin "Tailor." Tailor's buddy banty hen is TINY, so I call her "Midge" and that's about it. My Muscovy ducks have names. The Buffs don't... Everything else on the place has a name :)

I don't have any chickens (yet) but when I get some, I'm going to name the first one Tenders--she won't dare get out of line with a name like that.

I once had a black star I named Clugly cause she was ugly and clucked all the time. She had a bald head and a malformed back. She was a good layer and sweet. Ugly chicken though...lol. She was my favorite at the time.

I've always had too many hens to name. And with most all looking alike, it's hard. But I do name my roos. I've had Russell Crowe, he was a Barred Rock. Then Jimmy Buffet, a beautiful Buff Orpington. The roo I have now is Mr. Woo. He's an Americana. I only have 4 Red Star hens now. And they do look all alike.

We have named Ginger from the kids movie Chicken Run. She is always trying to escape. Sweetie.....because she loves people and is the first in line to snuggle. Churkey....she looks like a cross between a chicken and a turkey.

Then we have 2 that look identical. But the kids call them good and evil twins. One is lovable. Evil twin pecks them.

They all get named eventually. Hard not to name them since they all have personalities.
