Posted - Jan 30 2013 : 06:12:46 AM This is my 9 month old filly GFS Dashing Empress (Emp). She got slashed on the fence on Christmas eve and my wonderful vet sewed her up. She is doing fine, and healing really well. The first 2 pics are from about 5 minutes after it happened, we sent that to the vet. The third pic shows her a couple weeks ago with all the stitches. She still has every other stitch now. It's not healing as lumpy as the pic looks. It's her fuzzy hair that makes it look that way. We are told to slowly remove a few at a time. She is such a sweet girl, and the crowning jewel of my efforts in breeding racehorses so far.

Posted - Jan 30 2013 : 06:47:18 AM Oh my goodness, that's awful. I can't even imagine having to go outside and see that. She sure does look good now. Poor girl. You've done a great job with her.

Posted - Jan 30 2013 : 06:20:41 AM Wow, Laura. As bad as that is, it could've turned out so much worse. Some pretty nasty infection could've set in. You and your vet did an amazing job. The healing looks wonderful. I bet that once her hair fully grows back that the scar won't be noticeable.
Horse injuries can be so difficult to deal with. We've dealt with our share of leg and hoof injuries, daily cleaning and bandaging, and sometimes battling proud flesh. Very time consuming.
Congrats on the quick recovery.
