I have a friend who is wanting to know how and when to brush out her cashmere goat and what to do with the fiber afterward. Can you ladies give me any good links or advice. Im sort of wondering about it myself, also about angora goats.

I had cashmere goats about 20 years ago. When spring came it started to loosen up. I combed the fiber out and washed it carefully without agitating it. Put it on a screen to dry and then I mixed it with some wool and spun it. You can spin it by itself but its a shorter fiber and its basically the down of the goat. Some of my Nubian dairy goats will make cashmere in the winter but not nearly what a cashmere goat would. Its a nice fiber for sure but you need to put more twist into it when you spin so it stays together.
Angora goats have long locks. They have to be sheared off like a sheep every year. Most of the commercial breeds are white but my friend had silver, red and bicolor but they were more costly go buy. They had beautiful fiber. They require a descent diet with sheep minerals and grain because the fiber they grow takes from there body especially the angora goats. Their fiber grows pretty fast.
