Posted - Dec 29 2012 : 12:13:37 PM I feed the horses on Thursday and Friday morn and even. The evening feedings are always so beautiful at sunset. The Friday evening ones are especially special to me because in our family we keep the Sabbath from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset. I took a pic of this one yesterday evening. My phone camera never seems to capture it very well, but I wanted to share it anyway. I take it as Gods blessing on our family and our horses.

Posted - Dec 29 2012 : 7:55:52 PM What a gorgeous sunset picture with the horses. Thanks for sharing it.
We have great-horned owls in the tall palm trees in our garden. I hear at least one owl most nights, and occasionally there are two (as there were last night). A couple of weeks ago I saw one of them, "Hootie", fly down out of the palm tree, over my head, and towards the feral tabby cat that lives around my house. The cat dove into the bushes and was safe. Both Hootie and the cat have been around for months, so I figure that they were aware of each other before now and have figured out how to deal with one another. Tina, I also hoot to the owls, but they have never called back. I love having owls around my house, especially since I live in the suburbs...wildlife is very welcome in my garden.

Posted - Dec 29 2012 : 7:06:48 PM I have a pair of Great Horned Owls that live here, they have been around for about 20 yrs, I can call to them in their differant voices, and they answer me back...it is one of my favorite things to do, right as the sun is setting, watching them fly out to their high perches to survy their territory, to hunt, then they call back and forth to let each other know where they are, plus call when one has gotten some prey, so they can share...

Posted - Dec 29 2012 : 5:58:15 PM Thanks Emily, I am lucky. I love hearing the owls. They'll be back tonight, and I'll listen quietly to them. I love when they chat back and forth to each other. Sometimes, my inside cat, Miss Gracie, hides when she hears them. I've seen owls pick up small cats and dogs and take off with them. I just can't get Gracie to understand that the owls will not come inside the house. Again, thanks for the picture, Laura. So, so beautiful. Marly

Posted - Dec 29 2012 : 5:07:29 PM Laura, I bet it was beautiful, especially with the horses in the foreground! The picture is beautiful, but I know what you mean that they don't seem to do these things justice!
Marly! You are so lucky! I don't particularly like to be woken up at 4 a.m., but if it's because of the hooting of owls, I will wake up with a thankful heart! In my last apartment during the winter there were 2 owls that would hoot back and forth to each other in the dead of winter late at night. I loved going outside to sit on the steps and listen to them.
So many of God's blessings to be thankful for!

Posted - Dec 29 2012 : 3:32:08 PM Nini, I tend to hoot with the owls, than to soar with the eagles!!! In fact, just last night, there were four owls on the roof over our bedroom just hooting away. It was 4AM. I think they thought I should still be awake. That is a hoot! Hugs to you, Nini. Marly
