Oh gosh, got home from a horse show today to find one of our goats (boy) hanging from one of our hay feeders. Felt so bad, but really glad the kids weren't the one to find him. Totally one of those instances where we learned a huge lesson about goats and what they can get into. I really don't think there are any small lessons on a farm. :(

A goat is like 200 pound two year old, they are strong enough to get in to all kinds of trouble. Walk around your farm as if you are baby proofing the place. Hard to do when they are always working to surprise you. I learn something new every year.

Amy,

My heart goes out to you. I am so very sorry.

I asked because we used to have problems with their horns getting tangled and we had lots of near disaters such as this. We now disbud at 2-3 weeks. We now have only one doe left that has horns and it is such a peace of mind for us.

I really feel for you. I lost a baby goat one time in the rain and she fell in a water dish. Mama couldn't help. I probably missed it by 5 minutes. I tried cpr and everything. You sure do live deep when you have livestock (and other living creatures).

I have tears for you.

I am so sorry to hear of this - I have had that happen with a sheep and it is hard but it is what the universe gives us. You can be on guard 24/7 and still accidents happen. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

Ugh I am so sorry. I would 100% agree with you that there are no small lessons on a farm. Animals in general...if there is a way to get hurt, they will find it! I hope that you don't have to go through any more of these kind of lessons! I would rather have lessons that hurt my wallet rather than my animals.

Oh, how sad. Good that the kids did not find him though. I guess they don't know what dangers they are getting themselves into.

Oh man :( I'm so sorry Amy. I've lost goats, too- it's the worst. It's actually part of why I sold out of them. I just couldn't handle it anymore. I'm glad your kids didn't see it, though, that's for sure.
