Here is something my husband and I have been wondering. You know how cornish rock chickens can be butchered between 6-8 weeks because they grow so super fast? (And if you've ever kept them longer than that, you know they can hardly move because they have grown so fast...) HOW is it that a cornish rock hen survives long enough (and is healthy enough) to lay eggs at 5 (or so) months? And HOW is it that a Cornish Rock Roo, who can hardly stand up, can fertilize those eggs?
We've never had Cornish Rocks before but its something we think about every year (and we were just talking about maybe getting a batch in the next couple weeks after we butcher the other roos who are already here)...but we were just wondering - how in the world do they get Cornish Rock eggs/chicks if the hens and roos can hardly move around after 8 weeks? Anyone know?

That's why I got Freedom Rangers this time. they are probably a mixed breed too but don't grow near as fast as the CC do. I just did raise CC chicks and mine ran around all over the place and ate grass and bugs and scratched around like chickens do. Only a few got to be over 5 lbs. They could have laid eggs I bet.

cornish rocks are a mixed breed,jumbo cornish game hens/barred rock roosters, if you try to breed the cross, they will not hatch true to the mix
