Just had to share our latest addition to the farm. My cow is an Irish Dexter named Iris. She gave birth to a bull calf yesterday. I haven't named him yet, but he sure is cute! This picture was taken in his first couple hours.

I am trying to be the person my dogs think I am.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I originally purchased Iris in the hopes of having a milk cow. But since she came out of a large herd that was on range and she's 4 years old I've had no such luck taming her enough to be a family milk cow. I'm hoping that one day she will calve a heifer that I can hand raise to be a milk cow. Or I'll just have to save up and buy a cow that's already been milked. For now she's just blessing our family with beef. Her steer from last year will hopefully go to the freezer later this fall. Since he's reddish colored and was born in a heat wave we've started calling him Big Red. Don't know for sure yet if the name will stick or not. :)

I would call him Moourice, he looks like a big, friendly fella.

Awesome! Congrats to you and your momma cow! Do you milk her once he's weaned?
