my free ranged ducks have some round rubber feed pans that i fill to give them water in all over the farm, they seem to do all right.... dont let them out on the garden if you just are getting sprouts up, as they like them alot!

Lorena, moscovy ducks are very happy with just a small plastic childs pool, the hard plastic, not blowup type, I pick them up at yard sales, and a couple of times on the side of the road, just dump and rinse as needed, or your garden will love that duck water also...

Potato bugs are red/orange with black stripes. the first and second year we had potatoes, no problem with them at all. Last year, forget it. We had them comming out the wazzooo.

Will have to keep ducks in mind, however, I have no pond nearby to keep them in.

Megan, I use Moscovy ducks to help keep down the flies in the barns, they are wonderful...

Ours sure don't

Pity 'cause the 'tater patch sure gets overrun sometimes!

mine didn't. We had enough Col potato beetles to feed a huge army of chickens last year and they just weren't interested in them, even when we picked them off the plants (every day, twice a day!!) and dropped them in front of them -- they wouldn't even eat the larval stage. We just had to pick them off and drop them in soapy water.

chickens will eat pretty much any kind of bug, mine love the scorpions that make the fatal mistake of walking thru their pen ( we call them desert lobster here, lol)...
