Hey ladies,
I am very picky about the ticks around my home I put DE down to help get rid of them a few weeks ago and it seemed to help. We seem to have quite the infestation, I have picked off about 35 so far this year and 6 were just today. But I was checking my Scotty's beard today and found a fully engorged tick in it. I was able to get it out, mouth and all but I wanted to know, what do you recommend giving to her. I know that there is heartguard, but has anyone had any luck with the generics. Should I do a treatment of frontline? Also should I put another treatment of DE down in the yard.?
I had such a good mother's day until I felt like the worst one on the earth to the dog.

I use advatix for fleas and ticks and it seems to work pretty well. This year we are having a problem with ticks mostly getting on my husband. This is the first year we have not had chickens and so I am going to get some more and let them free range. They eat them and when we had them we didn't have a problem with ticks at all.

I am not sure what happened but the ticks have diminished we have only picked off 5 or so since sunday. I am doing the DE treatments every two weeks for 8 weeks. Where we live ticks are terrible and Lyme is up majorly this year. The ticks are alway worse when we have a mild winter. Thanks for the advice about the burning.

Heartguard is for heartworm. Frontline is recommended for ticks. I don't know much about de and effects on ticks. I had a discussion a couple weeks ago with my youngest bro. He mentioned this and if you think about it, it makes sence. Back in our grandparents time, in the early spring, they burnt the grass and brush in their fields and yards. They did it again in the fall. You know something? It didn't seem like there was much problems with ticks and other pesky insects. There's a specific way to do it. You light the fire so that it burns into the wind and do it in the late afternoon and early evening when the air is heavier. If you can get a burn permit to do this, make sure you have enough people to help control the fire. Would be a good experiment.
