I'm still doing research for my natural lawn mowers and I'm getting more and more interested in cashmere goats. Do any of you have cashmere goats...know anything about them, or know if it would be possible to find any in Missouri?

Grace, could you move closer to me, please?

Here are a few of my questions:
- Where do they fall on the health scale compared to other goats? I did read about the Angora goats being high maintenance. I gathered from some of the things I've read (hopefully not propaganda) that cashmere goats are pretty hardy.
- Would they weather the heat and humidity of Missouri? The air gets very thick here in the summertime. We have to watch all of our animals very closely during those times. They would have plenty of trees to get in under.
- Do they really not jump or climb fences?
- We have coyotes in the hills around us...lots of them. What are the risks and mediating actions that one takes to keep them safe?
- From what I've learned so far, does tend to provide a better fiber than bucks or wethers. What would be the reason for keeping wethers...do they provide protection, or just a good balance to the flock's mental state?
- We have ticks here...what are the practices for controlling them on goats? If they are in the underbrush, they are going to be right in the thick of the tick population.
- How many cashmere goats can I have per acre that will keep things green, but still knock back the weeds? I don't want it to turn into a dirt lot.
- Do you send your cashmere "off to the mill" for processing? If so, how do you know for certain you are getting your cashmere back from them and not someone else's?

I think that is is for now...I'm sure I will think of more!!

Thanks Grace!!

Don't really know a lot about them but I think they only grow the cashmere in the spring it's an undercoat. Actually any type of goat can grow some cashmere. Now angora goats are sheared like sheep every year and their hair is used for things.
