Yesterday, while I was working in the vegetable garden, one of my "missing" duck hens came out of the jasmine bush with 10 yellow and black duckies. Since the little family was in the house yard and mama was pacing at the gate, I walked over and opened the pasture gate and let them out back. LeaLou, farm-dog-in-training, followed them through the gate with a wary eye on mama duck. Perky turkey, our rescue turkey, was very interested in the new family and went over to check them out. A truce was worked out and Perky was helping with duckie sitting, when LeaLou, remember LeaLou, got too close and Perky chased her off. LeaLou thought this was a new chase game and kept Perky busy for about 10 minutes, before taking a dog break back with me in the garden. Of course, by the time I got the camera, all the excitement was over. By the way, our total spring duckie count is now at 26. Yes, there are more "missing" duck hens, 4 of them hiding the various bushes around our property.

When you free your mind your heart can fly. Farmgirl # 714,

Wow! 10 babies! It always amazes me how many babies ducks and geese have. We had some wild Canadian geese at a park here last year. There were two families and between them they had 31 little honkers! Everytime I'd see them I'd count them, never could believe they had so many. Congratulations to you and the new ducky family.

Good boy Hobbs! I love and miss you.
