I have been wanting chickens FOREVER! We have now had them for 6 days and they are doing so well! We ordered 25 chicks from WELP in IA and they arrived healthy and happy. We are currently keeping them in our garage in our homemade warming box.

We have Plymouth Barred Rocks, New Hampshire Reds and Ameracaunas. I can't believe how fast they are growing! Their little feathers are coming in and their standing taller and prouder! :) Too much fun!

Have fun with them! I can't wait until I can get back out to our farm to be able to have some more!

Congratulations, it is so much fun to watch them grow. I have 17 with a hen in an inside pen, while I was milking this morning I watched them trying to fly and hopping around on the roost. Mine are about 4 weeks old, I will move mama and the chicks in with the rest of the flock when the little guys are fully feathered.

Me too! I finally did it! I bought 8 chicks on Good Friday. They are growing so fast. I'm down to 7 though. My 20 year old son stepped on one. Big clod. I wanted to smack him. I bought 2 bantams just for fun and I think one is a rooster. "He" is a golden seabright. Beautiful chickens, but I don't know if I'm ready for the noise. lol

It was so funny! I had to go in the back entry of the post office to pick them up. It was a surreal moment as I picked up the peeping box and felt their little feet against the bottom. The box was alive!!! I felt like a first time momma all over again!

I ordered 25 and they sent 27 so I got a bonus too!

Thanks for all your well-wishes! It's been fun so far. My hubby and I are making progress on the coop they will live in after a couple more weeks. So exciting! I'll post pics of that in another post when we finish it.

I have more chickie pics and will post those when I get them uploaded to my computer! :)

It is like Christmas when the post office calls isn't it. I just ordered 25 but they sent me 28! I ordered from Murray McMurray. When they arrived one was dead, first time this has ever happened from MM. All the rest are doing great. Mine arrived on March 5 and they are getting bigger too. It is almost like you can watch them get bigger. Chickens are one of my favorites for the farm. Goats are my number 1 favorite though.

25! I'm timidly starting with 4, lol! I wanted some barred rocks but for some reason couldn't find them up here. Actually I did find some but the employees put them in with the Black Jersey Giants and oops! Couldn't tell them apart so wouldn't guarantee what you'd wind up with! Enjoy your chicks! What are your plans for them? All layers or some meat birds?

Audrey

Good boy Hobbs! I love and miss you.

I am sooooo jealous. I can't get any chicks this year. No electricity at the farm right now. (fire) and I certainly can't keep them in the rental house, lol. The landlord would have a stroke!
