Posted - Mar 04 2012 : 07:38:56 AM I've been mixing shelled sunflower seeds in with my chickens' seeds and grain mix. Now I'm planning on growing some of those seeds and grains myself. When it comes to sunflower seeds, is it okay to feed unshelled sunflower seeds to the chickens and let them peck them open themselves? I'm still learning about the safety issues associated with their digestive system.

Posted - Mar 04 2012 : 07:54:52 AM Thanks Sherry! Now if I can keep the bugs off of the sunflower plants before they produce seeds I'll be in good shape. Previous attempts to grow sunflowers has been sort of unsuccessful because of bugs and I don't use pesticides because of our bees. It gets tricky sometimes!
