Posted - Feb 10 2012 : 10:53:37 PM Thanks everyone, I was hoping to make one of the mobile coops so I can move it around a bit. My neighbors all have their own issues so I don't think any hens would bother them, I am sure soem roos would so I won't be getting any. We are around 40 miles from Chicago, in a nice quiet lazy neighborhood. A few blocks away they have chickens but one of their CSA members is on the town board so they can get away with it. I guess as long as other people's dogs don't bark at the hens to much we should be fine.
God bless,

Posted - Feb 10 2012 : 2:16:57 PM I am in the same boat...you have to have an acre of land to have chickens but I am on 1/3 acre but I live on a double dead end street up near a small mountain & the neighbors have always seen chickens here thur out the years....I keep my neighbors in eggs so they don't mind plus most are new so they don't know I am doing something illegal...I do have roos but since I am up here no one has complained since the dogs in the area are louder than my kids......When we bought this house we were told we could have chickens...so I got them before I knew what the laws were but now I will fight to keep them if ever comes a time I have to......Stay away from loud aggressive chickens......you get a smaller egg with bantams but most are very quiet..plus their poo is small & easy to tend to.....yes a good cute doghouse with a closing door would be very cute & safe for them.....or just make an area in a shed or garage for them to roost at night...good luck dear hen....Michele'

Posted - Feb 09 2012 : 8:05:38 PM How much of a yard do you have? Usually stink, ugly coop, and noise are the chief complaints of neighbors. I'd make a coop to look like a big dog house, maybe?

Posted - Feb 09 2012 : 7:29:32 PM depends how suburban you live. My county doesn't either. However, as long your neighbors don't complain, you are good. Good luck. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. |
