I posted in Welcome Wagon that I had been gone for quite awhile, but I wanted to post in different topics about the new and improved farmgirl life we've been having..
My oldest daughter and I are partners in Celebrating Pugs... a pug rescue. I say "pug" as if it's definitive of what we do but it definitely isn't. Of the four dogs in current resident, only one is actually a pug.... I have a chug (chihuahua/pug mix), a porgie (corgi/pug mix) and a puggle (beagle/pug mix) ....personally, I think these "breeders" have way too much time on their hands to come up with these "mixes"! I keep telling my partner that got me into this, that I am just waiting until we get a "pugraffe" in, lol!
We work with other rescues across the country to pull,transport, vet, foster then adopt out dogs that are in high-kill shelters or that are otherwise in danger.
It has been definitely a "labor of love" since we rarely recoup any expenses and sometimes have to deal with worst-case scenarios like mange and ringworm, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had.
Right now it is only in the planning (scheming) phase, but we eventually are going to create a rescue sanctuary, and a transport facility here on the east coast. (fingers crossed) with room for "lifers" (I don't like that word, I prefer "keepers"  )
Any of you ladies work in rescue? I love to hear your experiences!

@Trish...Pugs can be like that. Normally, they are all bark and no bite though. Teddy is like that. If he hears a sound from outside or even a doorbell on tv, he howls and carries on like he's an attack dog, but then if someone walks into the house, he's all up doe attention!

Tina is a bad pug, bad pug. We just got bantam chickens and she can't stop charging them. She's a give away dog, so I really didn't know what to expect.

Melina... like I said, I sort of get caught up with other breeds. I had a rescue deaf, white pit bull named Trooper. Beautiful and lovable but boy was he a handful! One of the upsides is that now I train all my fosters "PSL" (puppy sign language!).
Thank you right back atcha for helping such a malaligned breed!

Oh I love pugs..I use to have 3....they are such great dogs. I'm so glad to know you and you should be so very proud of yourself for doing such good work...Thank you for what you do.
