Well, here is the newest member to our family,,,,
actually she is still down in Portland, OR. living with the trainer but should be home to us in May....

This is my girl, Duster, a 20yr old Quarter Horse... and a real sweety.
A really good friend of mine is a horse trainer in Oregon and she is boarding and working with Duster till Duster comes home to me.
I can hardly wait.

I am going on a 4-day trail ride (Lewis & Clark trail) in Sept...I wish I could take Duster, but I will be with 7 other ladies on this trek, in fact, the outfitters is "Triple O" Outfitters... highly recommended & they provide the trail horses, tents, meals & morning coffee lol! we provide the 'saddle butt', chaps & our cameras...

Horse & Rider magazine did an article (in this Feb. issue) about 'Triple O Outfitters'.... so I am really looking forward to this trek with my gal pals, 4 of which are also my trailer glamping gal pals.... ahhh life is good
Happy Trails!

Oh & I forgot to mention,,,
Our very own MaryJane Butters did the Bitterroot trail ride several years back with Triple-O Outfitters.... and she so loved her trail horse that she bought him. Another friend of mine (one of my trailer glamping gal-pals) also bought her horse, 'Corky' from Tripple-O after falling in love with her trail horse.... hmmm, I think I am begining to see a pattern here,,, trek with Triple-O and fall in love with your horse! lol! oh oh!

Oh Michele,
you are right, for being a mature lady with probably another good 8-10 years she is in great shape... mind you that is her Summer coat...she is a we bit shaggy right now w/her Winter coat... kinda like me! lol!
I will probably only ride her for 3-4 years & then let her enjoy being a pasture ornament... but as long as she is happy & healthy to be ridden,,, she & I will have fun crusin' the west plains out here... I have nearly a 1000 acres access (old wheat farmland from across the road.) and the 'BusyBee Equi-Ranch and riding areana is directly behind me and they have 600 acres. Happy Trails to me!

Paula, I have heard of them,,, & I will check into them. the farms around here are gently rolling and not overly Piney or too rocky so it should make for great easy peasy riding. (the neighboring farms no longer grow wheat, they just grow pasture grass, & hay & alfalfa)
Also, less then 15mi away there is a State Park Equi trail & campground for riders to dry camp w/their horses. Yep, I see a lot of Trails & Tails & Tales in my future! lol!

wow hard to believe that horse is that old....i used to exerize horses & that one is remarkable in tone, shape & body mass...& such a wonderful body shape on it.....what a wondrful thing that you have a good friend who is caring for your horse...it has become a lost art so to speck to find good non race horse trainers so you are really blessed as is the horse.... excuse any typos' am dealing with a week long migraine so make mistakes but just had to comment on your horse...makes me want to get another one...I was lucky when I trained as I had 60 acre's of land I was renting at the time & got all types of horses that boarded with me but never had one as beautiful as yours to work with...sounds like you both will have a wonderful life together....Michele'

Mine are never shod either and their hooves are as tough as iron. Hope you can keep her natural. If she needs help on the trails, just pop on a pair of hoof boots and you will be able to go places the shod horses never could.

Kathryn,
The Bitterroot is one of their treks routes, I will have to re-look at my packet to see the route... we meet up down by Lewiston/Clakston.... I am directionally challenged,,, that's why I depend on guides! lol!

Paula, can ya believe it, Duster has never been shod...and the trainer said the same thing,,, her hooves are great and the Ferrier loves her cuz she is so easy & good natured. :>)

Alee,,, looks like you & I will be sharing 'tips' this year....

Debbie,,, excited to the 10tgh degree! :>)

I am so blessed to have a wonderful trainer who is also a wonderful friend and is taking good care of Duster till I can get down there to pick Duster up & bring her home. Thank goodness I tow a trailer...so towing a Horse Trailer won't be to hard,,, but I will get a refresher cource just to make sure I don't overlook anything.

Thanx for letting me brag about Duster & for sharing in my joy! :>)

Grace, she is beautiful, and in wonderful condition for 20. After spending so many years doing hoofcare, my eye always travels down to the hooves first thing when I see a new horse. Her hooves look good too!

She is beautiful!
I love bays too,I lost my Bay Thoroughbred a few years ago,he was in his early twenties and a big 17.2 HH guy and I've always wanted another bay since then but haven't yet got one,rod quite a few though.
What portion of the trail will you be riding?
I rode the Bitterroot portion a few times when I still lived in Montana and that and Glacier National Park was probably one of the most beautiful rides I have ever experienced,I bet you'll have a great time!

Wow, she is stunning, something about her reminds me of the horse(s) that played Joey in "War Horse."
