So far I have left messages with three government employees. None have called me back.
Do you know of some awesome database? Apparently people are trying to ban roosters, but allow more hens, and also consider .5 acres for more animals. I just want to make sure.
I want to know if I can have a Cochin Bantam rooster. I live in unincorporated Pierce Co; WA.

Since their dog poos in my yard, she planted English Ivy on the border, she feeds feral cats, and they mowed the sides of the boundary line trees when we lived in Idaho, I am not so concerned. I have never complained about anything they have ever done. She is addicted to Scott's lawn products, so I'm keeping my birds away from that.
They will need protection from the feral cats, crows, eagles, and hawks. There are lots of little ermine weasel critters too. They will be in a deluxe chicken tractor with detachable runs. We are going to build the coop 4x4x4. I am getting EE bantams. I may even consider building a second for some cochin bantams. It just depends what we can get done before spring.quote:

Oh I know what you mean trish.... I had a kid cashiering at WalMart dig her phone out of her purse so she could use the calculator feature to figure out 10%..... YES!! 10%!!! the one where all you have to do is drop a zero! I think I lost my faith in humanity for the day on that one.

Awesome!! And that is scary... Makes you wonder how she has a job and so many people who graduated HS don't.
We have 18 and they free range, but I don't know how that would strike your neighbors if the chickies ventured on over to their yards?

I AM ZONED AGRICULTURAL. I CAN HAVE AS MUCH LIVESTOCK AS I WANT!
Here's something scary. The lady I tt at zoning didn't know how to do fractions. She thought that .8 of an acre was less than half an acre. I literally had to explain it with pieces of pie. How many chickens can I have on eight pieces of pie, lady?

Trish, you should be able to search for terms within the document. If not on MRSC then on Pierce County's website or their code publisher's website. Poultry, chickens, roosters and livestock would be the most likely terms they will use.
Unincorporated King County allows chickens, but my homeowners association doesn't. If I wasn't already having issues with the HOA over garbage/recycling carts and a small boat trailer parked in my driveway I would be very tempted to try a couple of "pet" chickens anyway. We recently sold the boat. Now I need to build a little screen fence to hide the garbage cans. Then they can go pick on someone else for awhile.

I am outside of city limit. I called City Hall, they referred me to County Zoning. Next I am going to call chicken breeders and the feed store.

go to your city hall & ask for a copy of the cities bi-laws, it may cost, mine was $10 for our small town, but it will tell you about what animals you can have, how many feet of land you need to have, how close to a neighbors property it can be, what out buildings you can have & what size....what ever you do do not tell them until you know exactly what the laws are there that you are wanting chickens or have chickens...the reason I say this is if they speak to the town code people in passing about you, you become a person on their raidar(sp?) & next thing you know you may have the city permit people out there checking your place for violations ect....Michele'

WOW! County code is so confusing, and long. Lucky me, I have to figure it out from zoning section 18 A which is over 300 pages of mostly charts and abbreviations.
I can do it though, I know I can, because the guy at city hall said that I knew more than he did about poultry laws. Luckily, I'm not in city limits where you can only have three hens, because I want Easter Egger Bantams. I am concerned about the rooster because I am considering a small Cochin Bantam family. AAAwww.
As of now I think I can have 12 chickens including roosters.
