My 15 yo Cairn hasn't been well lately and we made a quick trip to the vets today after bringing him in just 3 weeks ago. Looks like his liver is starting to shut down. He's had elevated liver enzymes for years but they were off the chart today. We're going in for an ultra sound probably Tuesday so they'll have a better idea how much damage is there.

I know I've cried with several of you who've lost your friend, you all love your furbabies as much as I do mine so you understand how worried I am. Thoughts and prayers for Hobbs and his mom are requested.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Hobbs came thru his 3 hour surgery pretty good. The surgeon said it was a pretty hairy ordeal just because the mass was adhered to his veina cava (spelling?) one of the major veins of the body. He had to cut the adhesions very carefully so as not to puncture anything. Looks as though he earned his money today as Hobbs didn't require any transfusions and only had a brief spell of low blood pressure. I must admit I was a wreck! I don't know how I got thru it myself but I think it is thanks to your prayers and support. I was wrapped in one of Hobbs blankets with some of his sweaters next to my heart and my Bible. God was gracious to us again today and gave me my hearts desire.

Of course Hobbs has a long recovery ahead but all of his doctors remark on how tough he is. They said I may be able to bring him home tomorrow but I'm really not expecting him to be released until Thursday or maybe Friday. We got to spend a few brief minutes with him tonight but he was still really out of it so we didn't want to excite him to much. Hopefully tomorrow he'll be more alert. I think he's being given excellent care and I'm quite impressed with this hospital.

Again, thank you all for your prayers! Hobbs had lots of people pulling for him. I'll keep you posted on his recovery.

Hobbs looked good this morning. Alert and eager to see me. I got to hold him, pet him and he in turn gave me lots of licks. His surgery is scheduled for around 12:00 or 1:00 this afternoon (MDT). I'm going back to the medical center so I can be close by to give him extra support.

I prayed for this pup before I knew he existed (asked God to give me a dog mede just for me and DH), I've prayed for him during his life and prayed over other medical issues. I know he's God's dog and I only get to have him for a limited time but I'm praying that time is not quite up. But if it is, I know he will be back with the Father and waiting for me and DH. This little boy even knows he's a Christian dog. If he eats at a different time from me and DH he wont touch his food until we ask grace over it. He's in my Heavenly Fathers hands and no matter the outcome I know that's the best place for him.

Thank you all soooo much! I just can't tell you how much it means that you're thinking of us. My wee braw boy had a good night and was improved this morning. DH's meeting got cancelled and we got an appointment for an ultrasound early this afternoon. The saga continues as they found a growth on his liver. Cancer? Non cancer? They can't tell. Even if it was cancer there's a chance that it's one of the slow growers and that if they remove it he could have several more years and the chance of dying of something unrelated. And if they are going to biopsy it to determine what it is, they might as well remove the growth since they'd be there anyway and wouldn't then have to open him back up later. So.....

We are going for broke. We've come this far and as I've related before he's a fighter. He goes in for surgery tomorrow late morning/early afternoon. It's a dicey surgery and of course he may not make it off the table or it may be the bad cancer and still have only a short time left but DH and I don't want any regrets. So we are praying for a successful surgery with no complications and complete removal of the growth and of course that it is not cancer. Any prayers and good thoughts from all of you sweet sisters are treasured.

Audrey, my heart goes out to you. You are right, the liver does repair itself. Have you heard of the concentrated extract "Milk Thistle" 1000 mg by Spring Valley? It supports healthy liver function. I take it daily because I have liver issues and I swear by it. Go online and read about it. It wouldn't hurt to ask the vet about giving Hobbs it. It just might work.... God Bless!

I'm so sorry about your wee dog and of course, how raw this is for you and your family. As difficult it must be to enjoy these last moments with Hobbs, keep doing them. When the time comes, he will know that he had a life well lived, and full of love. And you will know the same--the enrichment we get from our pets is as amazing as it is humbling.

Thank you all so very much! I know many of you have gone through this with your pets and much loved farm animals. It's nice to be able to come here and share and know you all understand.

We've spent the day trying to make Hobbs comfortable and he even decided he wanted to go for his usual daily walk so we took him to his favorite park. DH & I were comforted to see one of his park buddies there and we talked to the other owners. Hobbs also got to great other dogs and several people without pets stopped to talk to him and pet him. I kept trying to get him to do a short walk and he wouldn't have anything to do with that, he was going to finish the whole path. I think he understands he's not got much time with us and by golly he's going to keep doing the things he loves until the end. This afternoon he wanted to spend several hours out in his beloved back yard so we did that too. I keep telling him what a good dog he is and always has been and how much I love him and will continue to love him when he's gone.

Again, thank you all for your love and support through this sad time for us.

I am sending prayers to you and your sweet one - I know 15 years is long but it is never easy when we have to part with those who we have spent everyday with caring for and sharing our lives with - just know that you have given 15 years to someone who appreciates each and everyday... Hugs to you and know I understand you pain and I am with you..

Audrey, it does sounds like he has a great home and will go in peace when his time does come. He is a very fortunate little dog to have had you all these years. I do hope things turn around for him though.

Hugs, Kris

Thank you all for your support. I'm afraid my boy is not going to be with me much longer. He's refusing to eat this morning. I've known since he first came to our home that this time would come. 15 years just doesn't seem long enough, but I know it could have been a much shorter time. He's cheated death several times in his life and God graciously saw him through those times. 15 is a good long age for a dog and he's had the best life we could give him. Who knows, the liver is one of the few organs that can heal itself so perhaps there is still hope.

Thank you all for letting me express my sorrow here.
