What do y'all do when you want to go away from the farm? I have not been anywhere in 3 years. My niece is getting married in Savannah this weekend. I want to go. SO I had put an ad on Craig's list about a month ago. Thought I had a girl coming in the mornings to milking and a friend was going to do evenings. But I could never get in touch with the morning girl. So I panicked. I had gotten several calls and saved all the numbers. I called the one on Lookout Mt. which would be the closest and she her phone wasn't set up for messages yet. So called another. She lives in Red Bank, Tn. which is about 35 miles away. And she's married with 8 year old twins. She talked with her husband and she said she could stay here the whole 5 days I'll be gone. Which is what I would have preferred anyway. I have a Border Collie and sheep. Not a good combination with time on her hands. So she is coming tomorrow afternoon. My sister is too. So we will have some girl time. And I can show her how I do everything.

What is was wondering is when you have someone come stay at your farm, what is a good price to pay? She will be eating my food I suppose. And using my heat. ANd really, there is not much to do during the day. So we figured $150.00. Which to me is worth it because it would have probably cost that much just to board Stella somewhere. I was just wondering if that was enough or too much. Any thoughts? It really is worth my peace of mind just to know she will be here just n case. I just never know what might happen. Just like today. I was mowing the yard and looked over at the sheep and they were all standing in the driveway. If I hadn't seen them or been here, they would have taken off down the road and I would never see them again. I had forgotten to tie the gate back together. And the driveway gate is shut so they couldn't have gotten into the yard. And then Stella would have been out there and chased them all over the place.

Would love to hear what y'all do.

I am back home! I had a great time but am SO happy to be back in my own home. It was a LONG 5 days.

She did come. With her 2 beautiful little girls. They are adorable! And Bubba and Stella absolutley loved them. They were so calm and nice and did not jump at all. The kids were great nad calm and so sweet. They had a ball here. Great kids. And Mary Frances was great too. She called every day to tell me how things were going. A few days ago she called and said the 2 doelings had gotten out of the milk room. But she left the door open and they came right back in. They aren't going too far away from their momma's. She also said Abby wasn't eating too much. Which is unusual for her. But when I got back tonight, I see why. She is in full blown heat! So tomorrow I will separate them all and put bucks in with Abby and Sandy. Yeah, breeding season in here!

Michele, I had a book written for the poor girl! It's hard to write down things that I do. I did walk her through it all but only the morning routine. Then wrote everything down so she's not forget. She did a great job.

It's so nice to be back here. It had been 3 years since I last went anywhere and will probably be that long again. I like being here.

It is alot of work to get away from the farm. I just had my nephew take care of chores for me for 3 milkings. I had to make the master list of what needs to be done, go through and show him how it is all done. I would think 150 for 5 days is good. It would be nice to have someone you know and trust though. Also you got to make sure everyone is securely penned up, and can't escape while you are gone. That is something you don't want to have your help try to deal with. They and your animals would not be used to each other and it would not be easy to try to round anyone up.

good luck

Well, looks like this new girl fell through too. Good grief! I thought she was coming tonight and I called and got her voice mail so left a message. She never called back. So I called the next girl on the list. I had talked to her too yesterday. She lives lots closer. So she said she would be here before 8 in the morning. We shall see. She has a 4 and 2 year old gilrs. She said they would spend the night and stay most of the morning then come back in the afternoon. The only problem is the dogs with little ones. I am afraid they will knock them down. But she said that's ok. Anyway, I am thinking I may not be going. I sure do need to get away from here for awhile. I am so tired of all the drama with my family and Mrs. T. I need a vacation bad.

Jen, she said she would love the milk. I told her she could have the few eggs the lazy hens are laying too. And she was ok with the amount too.

If it were me doing the farm sitting, I would be happy with that amount + keeping the milk :)
